I am looking for a light duty professional service laser printer that can handle
letter up to ledger (11" X 17").
I have seen some real deals on inkjet versions of copy/scan/print, but I am not satisfied with the smudge and run problems that
occur with the cheaper inkjet ink.
I have been using a Samsung laser printer/scanner, and it works well, however, I would like to upgrade to something that will give me in house
printing of larger format.

Smudge and run problems is indeed a problem with cheaper inks. Pay for quality inks.
The more you rely on 11"x17" for the majority of your work the more you appreciate using color.
My HP 7000 is still going strong, one of these days I will plot some 24"x36" at 1/2 scale on the 12"x18" size it can use. Since I do minimal full sheets I can visit one of the two Staples within 5 miles of home, or send my wife.
Next purchase will be a scanner capable 11"x17", but again currently, Staples is very obliging with a copy and a tiff of full size sheets.
