Looking at an HP Designjet T120. I need a low-end, 24" plotter to do mostly black and white plots with the occasional color aerial photo. Anybody have any experience with these pro or con? Also is there any other make/model I need to consider?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I got a T120 Last summer to replace a HP 430 which finally died.

As a low volume plotter it works great.

I have a T120 that I absolutely hate. It's latest feature has been to determine that the 22" roll I loaded is actually 21.97", so it wants to plot my C size drawings lengthwise, leaving me to trim 5" off the bottom. After an hour of monkeying around, I finally set-up a custom layout size 21.96" x 17", so it now will plot across the full width of the roll. Also, when plotting from the multi-sheet tray, the plotter requires a 0.67" margin on one end of tabloid size paper. My $99 Brother 11x17 inkjet would print edge to edge no problem. Support has been minimal to non-existent, and what there was spoke English as a third language.

How much will you give me for it?

I have the HP T520, and it is great. I went with the larger memory, more plot languages, roll feed and stand. It was around $1800-$1900, and there was a 36 month lease with a $1 buyout at the end. I bout it in November of 2014, and it will be paid for this November. I used it regularly when I was solo, and now, I just use it for check prints, and making posters and stuff for the kids.

My T120 is OK.
It has had 2 print heads go bad and HP was a terrible pain to deal with.
Get something better if you can.

To all....
Any other suggestions? $1,800.00 just isn't in the kitty right now.

Maybe one of these outfits can help? I rely on my local UPS store quite a lot:

I bought an HP DesignJet T520 last February for $1318.90 with sales tax included from Dasher Technologies. It has worked great for my one person business.

We just ordered a T120 about a week ago. Our dealer told me he didn't want to sell it to me because they are junk compared to the 4K model he wanted to sell me. He is a personal friend. I told him I understand you get what you pay for. I probably won't make anymore than 100 prints a year on it.

The Epson T3270 might work for you. I've got the T7270 and I love it! Easiest software and cheaper ink. The print head will has some cool tech behind it. Easy maintenance when needed.

Canon makes some nice plotters as well, we recently replaced an older HP plotter with a Canon IPF780, very pleased with it so far.

That's a good price. Did it include the stand and expanded memory? Mine did. I had to have a stand for my office. I did not have a table to place it on. It also makes it easy to roll around and clean behind it, etc.

Like Jimmy I own the HP T520 with the stand and expanded memory. I am a small company and use it, almost, exclusively for printing ALTA surveys. The copy shops around here were charging $7/sq.ft. for printing in color. That's $42 a sheet.
The T520 serves me well without going broke for a plotter.

Jimmy,
I Googled Dasher Technologies, and I came up with a company that does IT Consulting, Networks, etc. Is this the same Dasher Technologies?

Thanks,
Dale

I just purchased the T7270D to replace my old Epson 9880 that got flooded. The double roll feature is pretty slick! So far I love this printer.

Dale,

That was Steve that bought from Dasher. I bought/leased mine directly from HP. It was pretty easy and straightforward.

It included everything. I may have saved some money because I picked it up at their shop which is nearby.
I think it is the same company. It was formerly known as Ted Dasher.

Dasher used to specialize in leasing plotters and then reselling the off-lease units, as I recall. Was the price you paid for new or used?
