You can see from this close up that I still need to knock out a lot of printing dust. The bottom of the instrument was plugged full.

These are the 1/6th scale ones and you can see the detail difference

I will dye the 1/4th scale tonight and I should have working lower motion, working upper motion, working side knobs (2), working focus ring and working cross hair adjustment.

I have a small brass rough model of a Leica T1000 and a ceramic model of a TPS1100 Plus in my office that I have "obtained" over the years. Customers ask me all the time... "Where can I get one of these for my instrument" Someone should make these as a marketing item for the different companies. I know they would have to be hand painted but the big hurdle to me would be to get the model into the software for the printer. We would love to make some of these for our customers.

Hate to tell you it is a T3 .. See the big wide base, that is why I was so happy in a different thread to get the measurements for the legs, they were specific for the T3. I do have a really cool T2 with striding level and high zenith oculars, but, I doubt I will model it.

Can you post pics? Would love to see them. My models are on Shapeways if you want one or several. I was thinking of handing them out to some of my customers too, I haven't solved the branding issue to my satisfaction yet. So I have no great ideas on how to add your logo yet. I am working on it for myself. Unfortunately there is no economy of scale with 3D printing, one costs the same as one of twelve.

This is the T1000 brass figure..someone at the main Leica office had a few somewhere in an old box and gave it to me...

This is the painted ceramic statue of the TPS1100 Plus...same story...

I might contact the person I know Leica NA Marketing and see what would be said if we had some of these made. It would be really nice to get some small Leica MS50's like the ones you made of other instruments to give to customers who purchased one. Heck, I would want one. They would take awhile to paint but it would be worth it.

Never seen that before, thanks for sharing. I really like the second one, how tall is it? The local Leica rep is considering letting me have a go at a Nova MS50, when he quits greedily selling all that he has, LOL

3D printing does have that superb detail, but, that isn't cheap or super strong. It is their detail plastic and Shapeways will not print on these machines with the setting on ultra high. Too slow for their bottom line. If you look at mine printed in "FUD" that is with the detail machines set to high. If you want an Ultra High print you have to print elsewhere for about double. I have a different thread where I show the FUD prints. https://surveyorconnect.com/index.php?mode=thread&id=221207

The laser sinter that I am showing here is much cheaper, stronger and harder to paint. They are great Christmas ornaments. It is very porus and needs to be sealed after dying. After sealing it I will sometimes take a Sharpie to it for a little detail, but, generally something else has found my attention by then. These are some shots after dying and sealing of the above model. I tried sealing with some of the black parts installed and they bled onto the orange. Then my finger spread it even more. Over the weekend I will boil the orange parts and extract most all of the color and re-dye them.

And this Photochop to show the size difference between the 1/4th and 1/6th scales. I sold both of the 1/6th scale models I had, so, only PhotoChop's are available to me now.

These are some shots from the digital model. You can see there is quite a bit of detail that the laser sinter or for that matter the FUD style plastic does not show. This will improve in time, so, I am doing my models very high as I do not want to go back later to add to them. The level of detail I am adding to the Model 6 is above this https://surveyorconnect.com/index.php?mode=thread&id=230483

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I dug that thing up when i was posting pictures of my 1/24th scale Ariel Atom model as I was using coins until then. European's don't know our coins, so, I grabbed that and I have been getting crap about it ever since, LOL.

Radar, you will like this ...

Very Nice!

Have you ever done a building or bridge?

We have a number of scans of bridges and was wondering if it would cost too much to get a mock-up of it and the lanes below it.

Being a DOT we worry 'bout stuff like that. 😉

I have done the models as I do a lot of BIM and surface modeling. I am doing straight scan to print experimentation right now from the scan points. I would love to do a bridge model print, please email me and we can talk.
