Does anyone know of an excellent cloud backup service that allows one to use the service as a virtual hard drive. For example, I would want to assign the cloud backup as a simple virtual hard drive called P for example. And then I would simply drag my files or save files to the P Drive under any directory that I create on the P drive.

I have been doing that with I-Backup for 10 years, but all of a sudden they don't support Windows 10, and have no plans to.

Carbonate is one of the better known. I haven't used it personally, but know people who have, without any problems. As always, it's best to have multiple, redundant backup methodologies going.

Also, if you have a Microsoft 360 account, they have "One Drive" that acts like what you're suggesting. I think you get 5 gb with the basic subscription, but can't speak to the cost of more storage.

If you have time you can set up a Cloudberry backup and virtual drive. Cost is way way cheaper than Carbonite. I have 500Gb on a Amazon S3 account and only costing me 2 bucks a month for the storage. Backup daily to the cloud and have also 1Tb at the office that is backed up to. Have to buy the Cloudberry software but it isn't too bad.

I really like these new wave of exterior drives. They now are wifi capable and it is possible to have one at your home that you backup everything from your office with remote management.

These hot plug and play pocket drives about the size of your wallet will hold terabytes of information and go where you go. Simply plug into the machine you are on that day and save your work to the central storage bank and to your personal backup system.

I've seen that save people alot time when at larger companies somebody else gets into a project and computes a bunch of new stuff that lands out in the ozone.

So far, with all the talk about proprietary directions of the major players, I would hate to wake up one day and all my stuff is on some cloud that I now have to pay big bucks too access.

I haven't explored the full capabilities (e.g. "Cloud" access) yet but I have two 3-Terabyte Western Digital My Cloud drives that are supposed to do exactly as you suggest.

I get nervous when people start using some "cloud" thing and kinda forget the basics of Backups
using the "cloud" is great, but security might be very weak, and people tend to not consider redundancy and recovery.

have a read of this article, it is probably 10 years old so the software tools have changed, but the Plan is still very valid.
