I am starting a new layout project, and the drawings appear to have been created in Civil 3D.
I am using Carlson Survey 2008 with embedded Autocad. I have used DWG TrueView 2012 to "convert" the drawings down to 2007 with exploded AEC Objects.
I am getting large boxes for most of my entities. The main information I am looking for is the sewer, storm drainage, and water lines at this point.
Is there an easy way to bring these drawings into Carlson for calculating the layout information?
Thanks,
Jimmy
We had the same issues when we started working with Civil3D drawings. Unfortunately the best and easiest solution is requesting the Civil 3D users to "save as" to the format you are using.
Jimmy,
I had the same problem last year going from Civil 3d to Autocad 2007. I believe Civil 3D labels are saved as objects. You can try the AutoCAD Civil 2012 Object Enabler to convert them.

If the file isn't too big, send it to me and I'll convert it to native autocad objects. It usually is from xref files not bound to the drawing.

Thanks for all the help.
The files are quite large. The batch of files is over 35 MB.
I might have enough to work with for this first go-around. We'll see.
Thanks,
Jimmy
Thanks again for all the help. I was able to use the object enabler in DWG Truview 2012 to convert the drawings.
I ma still having trouble with some of the objects sucj as AECC Points being used as spot elevations, but I am at least able to work with the drawings.
Thanks again for the advice. This is by far the best tech support site for surveyors on the planet.

One thing that may work on the next go, Civil 3D has an option to "export to AutoCAD". If they provide you with digital files, this format may work better for you.
I haven't used drawings created by this command, maybe someone on this board can provide information on this.
"You can export a drawing created in AutoCAD Civil 3D to AutoCAD®. This process creates either a new AutoCAD 2010, 2007, 2004, 2000 or R14 format drawing with all civil objects exploded to AutoCAD primitives. The original drawing is not affected.
When you open the resulting drawing, the primitive objects are not restored to their original state."
