If I understand correctly, calibration is limited to manufacturer pre-set profiles; so, no user calibration.
With regards to use without a stylus:
If you've had your hands on one, what are your thoughts on the touch screen?
Responsive? Accurate? Clunky? 10 taps to get the 'buttons' to respond ? Forget it and use the stylus.
Whatever it is, I'd like to hear it.
Thanks,
The instrumen guy uses his finger most days without a problem. I think the touch screen is very responsive, or more so than any other data collector that I have used. For taking shots I prefer the hot keys instead of using the touchscreen.
I find it works better with the finger than with the stylus. No real issues though....I like the screen
Same. I use finger most times, stylus when needed, or it is cold with gloves. Only thing I don't care for it the little elastic thing on the back to store the stylus. I wish there was a pocket in the DC case that it quickly slid into. That was the only thing I liked about the FC-2500.
The surveyor 2 is terrific. I use it with finger and stylus. Without the stylus, I've had no problems response or accuracy.

I have an Allegro CX and a Carlson Surveyor+. I hate using a stylus -- it means taking a hand off the equipment -- so I use the keyboard as much as I can. There are a few operations I haven't yet worked out the keystrokes for, but my hope is to not have to use a stylus or finger at all. But in the interim, I find that the Surveyor+ screen responds pretty well to either. The trickiest are the scroll bars on the right side -- they're skinny and hard up against the edge of the screen, so I carry a stylus in my vest pocket, and use it when needed.
Works good for me in decent weather. Seems unresponsive in the rain at times. Works better with a finger...my 2 cents.
Works OK either stylus or finger except when the screen is wet. The only improvement I have made is to buy the smallest stylus I can find, like one for a cell phone the size of a normal ink pen.
We're having trouble with the Carlson 2 - It accepts the entries - letters-numbers so fast then you finish typing what you need, you have to click in the box.
It's like autofill is on or something.
Anyone else having this problem?

I found a word complete toggle in Windows Mobile, maybe this will help our problem.
Dug in hard on a deadline, y'all. Thanks for all the responses. I've got my hands on one and the touchscreen response seems to vary day to day. I have switched it between the 'stylus' and 'finger' presets (and back) but, didn't notice much difference. Biggest problem is going for OK button (green check) and not getting any go-ahead.
I'm accustomed to my old Nomad and like the ability to calibrate it to my pointer. I went to the system> align screen menu in the S2 and thought I'd get it straight; however, it then says that you must pick a preset (finger, stylus, or water). No personal calibration available.
I agree on the stylus holder; although, I thought it was a safety leash for taking it off bracket and holding it in hand. Can move it but, have to take out some screws. Maybe this winter.
