Does anybody know how one would change the settings so a surface does not include a billion tin lines along every curve?

Try "Reduce Polyline Vertices" before making the TIN. 🙂

Why do you need fewer tin lines?

Because the curved centerline is annoying to work with.

Looks good to me. Freeze the tin lines, and then you won't be annoyed.

But the contours come out stupid and I need a good surface for the engineers to design a new water main. I swap the tin edges, but there are so many... so so many. Reduce vertices has helped considerably.

Now, if one of the points has a bad rod height and the breakline picks that up, it becomes more of a mess. I had one of those on a smaller curve. in the same job.

I usually tell the crew to just locate segments. I can deal with those. But in this case, they hit centerline shots along a curved centerline at 50' intervals. Segments won't work.

Is the curve itself a breakline? I usually create the breaklines with 3D polylines and draw the curves in after contours are finished.

or you could have Field To Finish take your centerline shots and draw both a 2D and 3D poly between the points. The 3d line could be drawn on your breakline layer and turned off when not needed.

i need a good surface for the engineers. i have a wonderful routine to convert my data to an LDD project. the engineer will be creating some profiles and who knows what else from the surface, so using EDITCTR is out. adding a few random points to the tin is ok, but like everything, it's only in moderation.

Check the options at Settings -- Carlson Configure -- General Settings -- Remove Arcs.

I export a LandXml file, and send to people using LDD/C3D.

They can import that to their project and will get the surface.

How do you change the "reduce polyline Vertices".

I am create a surface in Carlson for an oval shaped track and I am getting way to many triangles along the curves which is creating very large file sizes.
