Hello all,?ÿ I just switched over to Carlson Survey 2020 from Civil 3D 2018.?ÿ One thing I can't seem to find on Carlson that Civil did was if I misspelled a word in Civil in any text or Mtext it would put a squiggly line under it, Carlson does not.?ÿ Is there a setting that I missed when setting up Carlson??

?ÿ

Thanks?ÿ

John Vlk

While editing you text, on the contextual menu, select spell check.

@douglas-w-chinn yes i know that one, but in Civil 3D it has a constant running "proofing" just like when you type in Word, even this page. If you misspell a word it puts a red line under it(see highlighted words below) and you can right-click and it will pull up suggested words.  I don't have that option when running Carlson and was wondering if it was an option.

Be aware, Carlson is not a CAD engine, and it runs in several different flavors. You can run Carlson on an AutoCAD OEM, full blown AutoCAD, or Intellicad. I say this because I have the options for Editor Settings on my installation (full blown). I'm just now returning to Carlson so I'm not a Carlson expert (C3D is my preference).

Besides informing us of your CAD engine, you can also check your mtexted?ÿcommand to see what editor is specified. Mine is set to none. You might also check what dictionary is specified.

I did try your spell check test and it did find the error and had suggestions.

@bound_hound

I'm running 2018 AutoCAD OEM Carlson.  I tried typing those words using "text" and "mtext" commands.  Both times, it drew a red underline under the second word.

@bound_hound

Intellicad may be your problem.  Hopefully some Intellicad folks chime in.  Some of the functionality is lost when using Intellicad or the OEM version, I believe.

Im running on intellicad. Bound_Hound posted that based on our pm chat.

I noticed spell check didn't recognize the misspelling of separately. So i tried multiple variations of the word separately. (seperately / separrratley / separatelyyyy.

etc. all versions spell check did not recognize as misspelled. ????. I usually dont spell check individual words usually the whole dwg. Now wondering what other words are not detected. Randomly tried the word water with 2 t's (watter). ???æ Same deal "spell check complete"

Tried this in 2020 & 2019 both with intellicad. ???¦ what gives

@mag-eye @bound_hound

I confirmed the behavior and have reported to the Carlson programming team for a solution. I did, however, configure my version of Carlson 2020 to make use of NotePad++ (IMHO, a great ASCII file editor) so that when I double-click on my MText, it's editor and/or built-in spell-checker offers various suggestions:

Command: MTEXTED
Enter new value for MTEXTED, or . for none <"internal">: "C:Program FilesNotepad++notepad++.exe"
Command: mtext
Multiline Text: First corner for block of text:
  (place MText)
Command:

  (double-click on MText)

I hope this information helps.

@ladd-nelson

Thank you for looking into it.

I did try what you suggested, but it still does not "proof" words that are misspelled.  I tried it different ways.  MTEXT typed a word wrong, didn't do anything, a MTEXT with a misspelled word already in it, again didn't say it was wrong and if i typed the same word it would suggest the misspelled word, that's no good.

The whole point of this post was to see if there was an option/setting that I missed that would run proofing as I typed/edited TEXT or MTEXT objects, just like when you type in this forum, in word documents, your smartphone, etc., but it seems that its an IntelliCAD option that they didn't incorporate into the 9.2.

@mag-eye found what seems like an issue with spell check within IntelliCAD 9.2.

@bound_hound the screen shot was from Carlson 2018, not C3D.  When it's checked/highlighted Carlson proofs while typing.  Un-checked no proofing.

Many of the early 2 letter commands work in ACAD based programs. The same is true for some non-ACAD packages.

Try SP followed by enter. It's not realtime but may help. I can't recall the combination variables that you can manually set, but there are a few. You have to turn it on, set it to english and pick a dictionary. Again, nay not work but it's worth a try. I was anazed at the crossover between the new flavors of CADD.

On other notes I will now spend the weekend in the cobwebs of my memory trying to remember.this stuff. Most likely I'll remember where the notes are stored around 3:30 AM Monday.

Good luck, Tom?ÿ

@douglas-w-chinn  are you running IntelliCAD or AutoDesk CAD?  I'm running Carlson over IntelliCAD and I don't see that tab

@thebionicman Typing "SP" in IntelliCAD pops up "contour-Polyline Smoothing" dialog box, i have to type, "Spell".  Again, not the end of the world, but it was a step that i use to have to do all the time, 5+ years ago, but up until I switched over I have forgot about it since Civil/AutoCAD did if for me 🙂
