Carlson linework/cogo point question

Been diving into learning Carlson and I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on this. We've been trying to figure out with emails to Carlson support. In a nutshell say we are computing out search coordinates off of a plat or ROW map or whatever, using bearings/dist/curve data. What is the best way to link the line work with those cogo points so that if I were to do a rotate/translate/scale of those coordinates, the line work associated with them are also transformed, the two are linked. It seems an either/or, move the points and linework stays put or move the linework and points stay. In Foresight these can be drawn as 'sets' where the line work is point dependent and any shift in coordinates is reflected in the linework. Does that make any sense? Played with Process Deed File?ÿ and Enter Deed Description but not getting the desired result. Suggestion box is open. Thanks. Willy

Does Carlson have a "group" and "ungroup" set of commands? AutoCAD and Bentley do. for that task I make them a group, then they can be moved, rotated, scaled or whatever as one entity, if you want them to stay connected, then I would recommend getting into the habit of naming the groups, but if it's for a temporary situation, they can then be ungrouped and they are separate entities again.

I don't know how grouping with points involved might affect any of the point commands and/or exporting points, that's just something that would need to be experimented with.

When shifting points, go to Points, Adjust Coordinates, and then pick Translate, Rotate, or Scale.?ÿ Each of these has several check boxes.?ÿ Translate Screen Entities will prompt you to select the line work to shift with the points.?ÿ Process Elevations is also handy if you want to shift points vertically.

Are you talking about adjustments on the data collector or on the PC??ÿ In the field when you rotate and translate points it will prompt if you want the linework done as well.?ÿ On the PC the linework can be grouped with the points. In the settings under the general tab in the carlson configure menu, options on the right side, you can link lines with points, labels with lines, etc.

There is common confusion on this topic.?ÿ The solution to your problem depends on which CAD engine you are running.?ÿ You are not using Carlson to draft in, that's purely a CAD engine function.?ÿ While you calculate around and use the option to draw lines from point to point, you are using the Carlson interface, but your CAD engine is doing the drawing.

If you are running C3D or another version of ACAD, you can rotate and translate or move your linework using the normal ACAD commands, but I have not yet figured out how to rotate, translate or move both the line work and points at the same time, I tend to rotate, translate or move my points, then follow up doing the same with the linework.?ÿ I've been using Carlson for 20 years and if you can figure this one out, please let me know what the answer is.?ÿ?ÿ

@chris-bouffard I don't use Carlson much, but I do know you can translate and rotate all cad elements, including points. Then use the command update crd from graphics to align your points in the database. And vice versa.?ÿ May depend on version.?ÿ

I'm using Carlson Survey 2020 on top of Autocad. Go to Points, Adjust coordinates, align points. Check the box to align screen entities and follow prompts
