I have F2F, a basic setup, on my old desktop and my old laptop. Everything seems to work on them okay, with a few minor tweaks here and there.
I purchased a new laptop this year, retiring my desktop. I keep by F2F file on Dropbox, so when I make a chance, it reflects on both of my laptops.
I completed an ALTA survey last week of a small hotel site. It was a pretty straight forward survey, and the F2F would have made it much simpler in the office, however when I tried to process the line work, the laptop went through the motions, created the point groups, but never generated the line work.
One of my goals over the winter is to try to refine my data collection procedures and streamline my office procedures. F2F is one way I hope to accomplish this.
Any suggestions on why the new laptop is not generating line work? I am going to crank up the old desktop and see if it will generate the line work. I haven't used it for drafting since I bought the new laptop.
Thanks in advance,
Jimmy
The first thing that comes to mind is this (and I'm sure you've already done this):
Once in Carlson, select the Survey menu -> Draw Field to Finish and check to make sure that the box for 'Line' is checked in the 'Draw Field to Finish' window. Sometimes mine becomes unchecked for unknown reasons.
How do you make your lines? Where do you store them?
Mine are in a LIN file in the support directory. The layers are setup to when you choose BYLAYER, the linetype comes through.
Or are you dealing with a PSLTSCALE, MSLTSCALE issue?
Thanks for the replies. I booted up the old desktop, and ran the same coordinate file into a new drawing, and ran F2F, and it generated the line work no problem.
I am using the same *.fld file to generate my F2F parameters.
I am using the standard *.lin file that comes with Carlson 2008 with embedded AutoCAD. I don't have any special line types or anything.
I also checked the draw lines box. I was checked.
I also saved the *.fld file from the desktop to a new name, and tried it on the new laptop without success.
Thanks,
Jimmy
On the old computer, issue Survey -- Draw Field to Finish -- Edit Codes/Points -- Code Table Settings. Check the Max Length for Linework setting. As needed, issue the SaveAs option to produce a *.F2F file.
Secondarily, continue deeper and click on the Special Codes button. Depending on your configuration, you might also need to inspect the BEG and END codes to make sure they are compatible with your field coding procedures (it sounds like your old software is configured properly).
On the new computer, repeat the steps above and issue the Load option to load the previously created *.F2F file. Upon the next reduction of your data, you should get linework. If you don't, feel free to send me your F2F, FLD and CRD file (lnelsonATcarlsonswDOTcom) and I'll see if I can trace it down for you.
Are these short segments and do you have to Enable Linetype Generation on a 2DP?
I seem to remember a change from CS 2008 to the newer versions. I can't remember exactly what the problem was, but I know that I had to change my fld to make it work as it did before.
