When I go to insert a symbol into my drawing it creates that symbol as a block. How do i turn that feature off. I like to be able to move the text from the symbol around. I can move the text but it still leaves the text with the symbol. I am using the national cad standard symbol for a water valve.
Thanks
Explode it
Don't like doing that. When you do that then the symbol and text goes to layer 0.
There is probably another way to do it but that's what I do. I then change them to the layer and color I want. You could also make another block without the text, then just add text separately.
Use the explode option at the bottom left of the insert window. If the symbol is created on layer 0, it will indeed go to layer zero. Thus you have 2 simple choices:
(1) Do a "change layer" on the symbol and text.
(2) If that particular block will always be inserted on the same layer, simply open that block definition dwg file and change its layer to what you want. From then on that block will be on your "correct" layer when you explode it.
Seeing that the symbol and text are all in the same block, what you do to one will always be done to the other.
Maybe try REFEDIT?
Yes, can you make attributes and dynamic blocks in IntelliCAD?
I made my own cad blocks, added the text as an attribute so i can move it around. Now I am returning and making the symbol a dynamic portion of the block so i can rotate it without rotating the text portion unless I choose to rotate the entire block.
