Hey guys, perhaps someone here will have some insights. I was doing some research (after vaguely remembering something about cad standards).

From what I've discovered so far, cad standards (for checking layers, line colors, etc) is included in full versions of AutoCAD, but not in in the LT version. Is anybody aware of a free/ inexpensive cad standards checking add on for CAD LT?

That's the thing about ACAD Lt. No adds-ins, no customization. It will not do it.

I was afraid of that. I knew the primary difference was the 2d vs 3d, now no add on. 🙁

Strangely, AutoCAD Lt is indeed 3D. I run 3D files in it all the time, especially contours.

I was specifically told Lt was 2D, and it was several years later that I found out it was in fact 3D. I suspect it is one of the little secrets they don't want you to find out about, so you will buy the full seat.

It depends on exactly what you mean by "3d".

From Wikipedia....

...While there are hundreds of small differences between the full AutoCAD package and AutoCAD LT, currently there are a few recognized major differences[12] in the software's features:

  • 3D Capabilities: AutoCAD LT lacks the ability to create, visualize and render 3D models as well as 3D printing.
  • Network Licensing: AutoCAD LT cannot be used on multiple machines over a network.
  • Customization: AutoCAD LT does not support customization with LISP, ARX, and VBA.
  • Management and automation capabilities with Sheet Set Manager and Action Recorder.
    CAD standards management tools.

You might have gotten the 2D impression from the AutoDesk 2000 LT box: "...the low-cost, professional 2D CAD program..." Or perhaps from the 2005 box: "AutoCAD LT is the leading 2D drafting..."

But, I assure you I can import 3D points and 3D contours with ease into LT.
