Haven't had much time to stay up to date on the board but it is good to see how many are here posting good advice and comments.

We are updating our servers and the IT guy is really pushing for us to use Sharepoint 2010. I want to check to see if anyone here has any experience with how Sharepoint works with C3D 2012/2013 and if Carlson Acad embedded 2010 can open and save files in that environment. I am pretty happy with how our data storage is working but he seems to think we would be better off with sharepoint. As you can tell I am pretty ignorant about how Sharepoint works except that I use Google Apps for Business and I think it will be similar to how Google Docs works. Any and all comments are appreciated.

Is your IT guy a surveyor or at least a trained drafter??
I HATE IT guys pushing software when they do not FULLY know how to do my job.
Has the IT wit looked to see if his beloved software will be compatable with your clients software also? Stuff that works great in house, but cannot be exported to clients and end users is virtually useless.
Will the 2010 version be compatable with the 2012 AutoCad format? Way too many unanswered questions for the IT guy to be pushing the software so hard. I am not saying this is the case, but we USED to have an IT wilt that was adamant that we use a certain software. We knew that he could not use the software or configure it, but was hot to trot that we but that software. Found out later he had a kick back deal with the vendor.
IT guys need to keep the system running smoothly. The end users need to recommend software based on their skills and knowledge. Sorry, but IT guys recommending specific software has NEVER worked out well for me.

I hear ya. I have been on the Autodesk Forums and seems promises have been made that Vault 2012 and SharePoint 2010 will play happy together but reading the posts paints a different picture. SharePoint has been around a long time and is a great way to share data but C3D is a very complex program and I think I may be on the bleeding edge again if I go for this.
