Another weird SurvCE behavior

SurvCE v. 2.04. In the Store Points screen:

(This is a screen shot from the manual for a later version than I have, but the screen is nearly the same).
I can Store, Read, Configure, etc. without a hitch.

But if I want to add/change the Description of the point, and click in the window to edit the text, it gets me to something that looks like this screen:

and pretty much locks up. It won't accept text; won't let me exit. The only option is to "X" out.
Does anyone know or remember if this is an anomaly of the older version of the program? Or something I'm doing wrong?
