does anyone know of an Android tablet 4.2 that will do COGO, BUT ... including the use of BEARINGS ... not just azmiths. I need BEARINGS-traverse(with the azmith/field angle option).

I wrote a very indepth program(GFA basic), back in 1984(or so) and it does everything I need, but I can't get the program to run with the emulators I've found thus far.

This http://www.underhill.ca/software/copan-android might be what you need. I know other versions of Copan handle quadrant bearings, and assume this one does too.

Try Harcourt Traverse and Surveying. Blake is very receptive to ideas.

Traverser by A R C Rowe is also a very useful application and bangs out adjustments very neatly.
Both available on Android Play Store.

Oh! Just reread your needs. May not suit due to angular type.

I have used and enjoyed versions of the Copan CoGo for Windows Mobile and Windows Desktop over the years.
The Android version is totally different design and is basically useless garbage.

Why? I have no idea why they did this.
-----
Harcourt Traverse
VERY non-standard, non-intuitive way of doing calcs. so play with it a LOT before attempting real work.
*** NOTE NO CoGo. or Point Number Recall.
No user choice of Point Number to use for storage.
So basically a useless SURVEYING program for these and other reasons.
Maybe OK for adding DMS angles.

Make sure you have a paper map and label point numbers manually as it has crude non-interactive graphics. You are basically flying blind.

All the Apps for Android currently are pretty much unusable so beware.
Same with iPhone/iPad
Just like most I would like to have a nifty simple free pgm on my mobile device.

In the past I have tried to give advice to these aspiring programmers but it's just gotten too tiresome (done it twice so far). All seem to be first year apprentices that are trying to learn but simply have no clue how things are done, what is SOP, what features we are used to in commercial programs.
CoGo is not a new concept.
User defined Pt# with NEZD. Use of Pt# for Distance and Bearing Recall. Use DDD.MMSSss for angle input. ASCII Import/Export. Use of Figures/Linstrings for group operations and road alignments.
I've written tons of survey related programs in 35 years but I'm retired and it's just Easier to use old commercial stuff I already have for anything I need to do now.
ex. old CoPan Cogo on a PC or CMT CoGo CAD on PC. Both free.

I hate to see people reinventing the wheel and not doing it very well.

Harcourt Traverse can do point to point, and Cogo from a given point number.

I believe it's (application) a work in progress.

Whilst not the same as my trusty but failing 41's it was nice to find an application for Android.

Agree, there is a complete lack in this area and can only surmise the perceived use or value of such puts development off.

For now I'll continue to use them and be thankful.

If you have an internet connection, you can use q-cogo.com. You can use it off-line on a computer, i don't know about a tablet.

Multi-platform COGO

I'm glad, in a way, you say that.
(Easy for me to say though; the windows Copan was my baby when i was at Underhill, and the android Copan was produced after i was laid off "because they didn't want to do any more software development")

Now that i've been fired from another job -- i was supposed to be the GIS expert at an IT company providing a cadastral parcel fabric but they chose to ignore my geomatics software development skills and mainly used me for things i was unqualified for -- i'm returning to a recurring dream:

To build a Copan-like CoGo tool to run on any platform.

Maybe there'll be some moral and financial support for it here?

Multi-platform COGO

I'm truly sorry to hear of your bad luck.
I hope you can get something going in the future.
I made a small foray into trying to sell surveying software and thank goodness I had a regular daytime job. It's tough selling software.
Essentially a labor of love and and a absorbing hobby.

Wish I had some good advice.

Thanks for your post. It solves the mystery of CoPan CoGo for Android.

I wish you the best. Moral support aplenty.
