Starting to consider a 27" monitor to use as my main one, then I will move the current 24" over to the side.

My 24" is currently a DELL U2410.

For the 27": LCD, LED, Cathode Ray Tube, what should I get?

Wow, does anybody still sell a 27" CRT monitor? I don't have anything that large, but all mine are LCD.

LCD are light, economic and run cooler than all the rest.
My Samsung 24in operate at 14v.
Check out the tech specification, some of these newest monitors may not have the multiple options of VGA, DVI, HDMI connections.
B-)

Thanks fellas. Really I am hoping for a make and model number that you all are using and are happy with. Then I can do my shopping from there.

I'm using the Dell U3014 (30" 2560x1600) as primary with (2) Dell P1914S secondaries (one on each side), works well (for me).

Watch for side bezel thickness.
Also height adjustment. How you set 2 together is important for me.
I have mine set to be aligned at top so menus etc are all same height.
I have an Asus 27" monitor. And an HP business 24". (can't say models as I'm home)
HP business one cost 2 X other and the picture quality is evident.
Is that important to you?
Photographic work? Better quality screen if doing anything serious.
One thing I like about both is I can partition the monitors to act like separate screens.
Quite handy at times. They both have software to do that. Maybe able to get third party?
Once moved over to 2 monitors the world changes.
3 would be even better.
I bought a laptop recently and viewed same image from an SD card across a few to see how each screen faired.
Are you able to do that?
It swayed my purchase.

I run 2 32" sharp LED TV's and it works very well. Make sure if you are doing TV's get 1080 p as 720 looks terrible

I just scored a pair of HP 27es for $139 ea from Best Buy online. Looks to be a decent monitor, but only been using it for a couple days. I notices it is just a very small bit dimmer then my last monitor, but I had the brightness cranked way up on that one. It is about the same height as my 24", but about 3" wider, not sure if I like the extra width just yet either. Still getting used to it... I usually hate change.

I bought 2 Samsungs S27D360 from Costco that I am happy with. It is nice to have them the same size that you can place next to each other and have things line up.

27" monitor at Costco today for $179. At that price, if I was in the market (and I might be) I wouldn't overthink it. In a year or two the next thing will replace it. They also had 34" "super wide" format monitors for $348.

I'm very pleased with my 28" diagonal (15"x 26" ) Samsung U28D590, 4k resolution (3840 x 2160); it has 3 video inputs- 1x HDMI, 2x Displayport, but no VGA. (for someone stuck with VGA, there are VGA--> DVI --> HDMI adapters available, but probably easier to replace the video card instead)

It can display 2 inputs, either as picture in picture (PIP); or display each separate input on half of the screen, allowing 2 computers to use the same screen; or a computer with dual-video output to use the entire screen. I've had dual monitor setups in the past (2x 20") but I prefer a single, wider screen now that they are available. The ultra-wide screens around 34" wide are also very nice, but still pricey.

Only known drawback to this model is that the height of the monitor is not adjustable in this model-- and if mounting on a separate monitor mounting bracket, an adapter is needed for the more common VESA mount. I've got mine sitting about 5 inches off the desk on an older re-purposed printer stand to be at the height I wanted.
