I don't need an "all-in-one". I'd like a 11x17 inkjet printer that has two trays, one for ledger, one for legal or letter.

I already have a laser letter/legal sized all-in-one, a Brother, that's been solid, and I'm not looking to replace that. This will be my 5th Ledger size printer in the 5.5 years I've been in business for myself.

So far I've have had two HPs and two Epson, and both have their issues. The HP had a printer offset problem, and seemingly could not center the drawing (it look me hours just to figure out how to keep the border within the page, and I don't want to go back to that), and eventually stopped working. I bought another HP, same thing.

I've had two Epsons, as well, and Epsons have their own unique problem, in that their printheads are not part of the cartridge, so they don't get replaced, and therefore have been subject to clogging. I've been battling the clogs for months, and I'm currently using 3rd party printhead cleaners trying to see some improvement, after 24 hours of soaking a squirting, and test prints, and seeing little improvement, I'm about to throw it in the trash.

Sorry about the rant, basically, I'd like an 11X17 inkjet with two paper trays that not an HP, Epson, or an all-in-one.

Any suggestions?

my first Brother, Brother MFC6490CW, it was excellent.
I got a second, a Brother MFCJ6710DW. also excellent.
on downsizing and I kept the second one on a coin toss (and a huge ink supply)

both are all-in-one, wifi. I mainly scan, never used the fax on either.
I don't know what is currently available, I paid about $150-$200

Based on the suggestions of this board, I went with a Brother MFC-J6710DW and have been very happy.

For the price, the Brother is hard to beat in the 11x17 world.

I have not used half of what the all in one will do and probably won't, but what it does is good and I'm probably going to get another if this one quits.

I love my Brother All-in-One, I'd buy another brother in an instance if it meet what I was looking for.

All the 11X17s by Brother seem to be All-in-Ones, which I wouldn't mind, but I already have the huge brother All-in-One (a nice laser printer for letter and legal) and where this printer needs to go is a limited space (I had an HP1000 Wide format and the Epson WorkForce 7010 Wide Format there, but the all-in-ones are much larger). Also, it doesn't seem to have 11X17 paper tray, it has to be sheet feed?

The only Printer I can find that meets my specs is the newer model Epson Workforce 7110 (I have an Epson Workforce 7010 Now) ... I don't really want to get another Epson because of the PrintHead problems, but I will if I have to. I've researched the heck out of this trying to clean my current Epson, and some people say you can make the Epsons last longer by using the head cleaner solution every 3 months as preventative maintenance.

What's your model number?

The MFC-J4320DW says "Print up to 11"x17" via the single sheet bypass tray"?

true, both the MFC6490CW and the MFCJ6710DW are all in ones, and they are Big... and I am sure the others are about the same size
***my "downsize" was not a $ thing or change in use, I just did not want two monsters.

You also need vertical space above to open the scanner...
1.8 wide, 2.2 deep, 2.0 high including the open lid.

Both: two paper trays, adjustable for a multitude of sizes, the largest is 11x17.
The scanner beds, also 11x17. I don't see a way to single sheet feed, that would be nice.

I don't think you can get two paper trays, print/scan, 11x17 in much less space... good luck

The Brother MFC-J6710DW top tray can adjust to all media sizes up to and including 11x17.

Photo quality printing can only be done thru the top tray and produces a sharp drawing on inkjet or lazer quality bond paper.

Best print quality and regular print quality will produce a decent drawing from either trays.

I understand your disdain for HP and Epson printers, I've had and hated both, but ruling those two out really limits your possibilities. Consider the following:

- Buy a 13x19 format printer, then what you want to do with 11x17 becomes limitless. The firmware becomes better and the built in memory higher.

- Do a little research. Both HP and Epson have I huge online following and a ton of non-corporate information exist. A bad printer get discovered and outed real quick.

- Stay away from consumer and professional versions. Most have a middle of the road model.

- Try a current end of life model. Its track record is known and you can still buy new ones on eBay or Amazon.

- Try to find one that uses the same ink cartridge that you already use, That's a very big help.

It's all about the ink and replaceable imaging parts. Have a look at the Xerox Phaser 7200. More cost up front but the ink is pretty cheap if you buy the toner by the bottle and every few years you get a new printer when you replace the imaging heads.

There is a single sheet media feed on the MFC-J6710DW, although it's not easy to see. It's on the back and the top of it is about level with the hinge on the scanner cover. You flip the feed open at the top. It sometimes does not feed properly on thicker media like stick-on labels, card stock, or envelopes. Then you have to re-insert the media and/or push the Start button two or three times.

I might not have found mine either, but I did some volunteer work that involved making a batch of mailing labels.
