CLARKSVILLE — The body of Red River County Commissioner Josef Hausler, 43, was found beneath his four-wheeler early Saturday on a farm near Bogata.
Hausler had been surveying for the proposed Rose Acre Egg Farm on Friday, when he disappeared.
Shortly after 11:30 a.m., he had called fellow Red River County Commissioner Donnie Gentry to set up a lunch meeting at 12:30 p.m.
Hausler failed to show for that meeting, and later in the day for his 18-year-old daughter’s birthday party.
That set off a search that included law enforcement officers and fire department personnel.
Shortly after midnight Saturday, he was found in a 10-foot-deep embankment, his four-wheel vehicle on top of him.
“It is a horrible tragedy,” Red River County Judge Morris Harville said Saturday.“It is unbelievable a bright, young man who had everything going for him is gone. He was a great commissioner, so active, a really outstanding commissioner.”
Red River County Justice of the Peace Shelley Benton pronounced Hausler dead shortly after midnight Saturday.
He apparently had run his four wheeler into the gulley in the overgrown field sometime before noon Saturday.
His surveying equipment was set up not far from the spot he was found.
It was the flashing red light on the survey equipment that led searchers to the body.
“He loved his job, was a hard working commissioner, and he was excited about the potential of the egg farm,” Harville said.
Hausler was appointed to the commissioner job by the late County Judge Powell Peek, after the resignation of Commissioner Mark Megason.
Hausler was up for election in November and was unopposed for the Precinct 4 commissioner position on the ballot.
He leaves a wife and three daughters.
Red River County Courthouse will be closed Monday, and the scheduled Red River Commissioners meeting for Monday will be reset at another time.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Clarksville Funeral Home. "
That is a shame.
Aww man....That just plain sucks!! 🙁 🙁 🙁
My deepest sympathies go out to his family & loved ones.
Sad.
Very sad, yes. But this should be a warning to solo surveyors. And this is why I won't let my guys go in the field alone unless they are in and around an area where there are people. I know some have talked about solo people checking in on a regular basis, etc., but maybe someone with him may have been able to help.
Another surveyor gone
I got this this am from the society. Tragic and a good reason to not be solo.

Sorry for the redundant post, my RIP category was off.

Not a problem. This particular story caused a few separate threads to be started, all of which I've combined into one.
