Just wanted to note the passing of John Ellenby on 17 Aug 2016, who shared in creating one of the first successful small, portable computers, "GRID" (a predecessor to the laptop) in the 1980's.- I don't know if many surveying companies ever used one- they were very pricey, but they did the job and were quite useful in the field.

Saw his obituary in the Wall Street Journal, I first saw one of his GRID computers in use with the US Military in Desert Storm 1990-1991; I last used one for work as a ground-based control / satellite receiver in 1995.
