Thanks Debbie, since this was a gift from friends we have decided not to ask them for a receipt.
We will just consider this a Steve Jobs loss.

I don't think he cares any longer, if he ever did that is...

Probably should have said, "Thank you very much for having been part of the iTunes Store family, Brad."

That was quite iMaginative
What's the back story? I don't know how a receipt has to be used with a gift card.
Gift card have to be activated by the cashier at check out. If you get a gift card that hasn't been activated, a receipt would prove it had actually been purchased. If it's a generic gift card that can be loaded up with any amount of money, and it isn't activeated, the receipt would show the amount that should be on it.
You weren't iNdignant, were you?
Rick
Ok, so the gift giver did not have the card activated properly when purchased? I don't see how that is the stores problem. I would just bring it up to my friend and ask them if they can help. Or just toss it and forget it. I get Barnes and noble gift cards all the time... I have them swiped when I go in so I know how much I can spend.
i just figured out the gift for everyone this year, unactivated gift cards without receipts...
I understand you don't want to look like a whiner to your friend, but think about this... What if they are doing this consistently because they don't understand how it works?? Are they paying money for these cards that are basically useless?
If I was, I'd want someone to point it out to me, like when I have food on my face.
