I have spent a lot of time looking at the helicopter UAVs over the last several months, waiting to jump in and buy one. It's like waiting for the right time to buy a laptop... there is no right time. They will always be less money tomorrow.

I finally leapt last week and ordered a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus. I'll post my thoughts and link YouTube video of my first flight attempts...that are hopefully not disastrous.

I've used fixed wing UAVs in commercial applications here in Canada, but this one will be simply for recreational use out in the wild...for now...

I'd be interested to see how you go, I'm looking at heading down that path myself.

I'm about to buy something similar as well. For recreational use (as you said) "For Now". Going to pair it with the Datumate software eventually!

McScotty-

Will Steve Harper let you fly it in Canuckiana ?

When you come this way, do bring it with you.

Cheers,

Derek

I have had mine for a few months (Phantom 2 vision w/ GoPro camera and gimble). Love it and try to fly all the time. I have a few videos on YouTube. Search for tglankler.

Would be interested in this too.

Been looking at the phantom line and have selected the vision 2+ as the best option.

Would be interested in taking progress photos of some of my construction projects.

Keep us posted

Thanks for the link! Great stuff.

My P2V+ is on back order. I also have the case on the way from TradeCraft Cases. They are highly recommended.

I am lurking with interest. I am thinking this could keep my solo butt safer and out of highway traffic on topos for design engineers...

Do you have any updates or more thoughts to share?

I am planning to attend the webinar on Thursday.
