Does anyone know if the BLK360 G1 downloads all off the data to the andriod tablet when using Field360? I used a friend's to test it out. It seemed to take forever to download the 22 scans into Reg360. I got 6 downloaded last night. I need to return the scanner but the tablet is mine.
My understanding is that the data is stored on the BLK or RTC360 and that only minimal data is sent to the tablet for use by Field 360 so you may have to wait for download from device.
I think this may have changed with the newest release of Field 360.
I don’t know about the Blk but the RTC360 stores data on a special USB flash drive that comes with it. Then I copy the data folder onto my laptop computer.
Next drag and drop the entire folder into Register360 which takes a minute or so BUT it is not permanent until you hit IMPORT. The import routine usually takes over an hour depending on how many setups.
After that I join the bundles together (usually get 2 or 3).
We had a project recently with 104 setups. Brought it into Register360 2022, 2 bundles, had it into 1 bundle and control applied in 5 minutes.
Next, training new employee so downloaded 2023 for him and upgraded mine. 1 bundle but it was a disaster area. Delete all the obviously wrong red connections, eventually have 3 bundles. Join those, apply control. His was a mess too but a different mess. Got him through that.
Usually get bundle breaks where batteries were changed which is what I eventually wound up with in 2023.
Thanks for reply,
I currently have a C10 and have used an RTC360 on multiple occasions. I'm used to transferring the raw data onto a USB thumb drive and then importing into Cyclone or Register360. Unlike the rest of the Leica HDS fleet, the BLK360 G1 does not have any removable storage or data/power ports (it appears the G2 does have a USB C port). Everything is transferred via Wi-Fi. For some reason I could not directly download the unit using the 'BLK Data Management' program or Register360. It would give me data errors, which I will try to investigate later. In Register360 I was able to download thru my tablet running Fieldworks. This was a painfully slow process and since there is no way to apply external power to the BLK I could only get about 6 or 7 setups downloaded before the battery died & I had to start the process over. Fortunately the software keeps track of the setups it had successfully imported. I did not even think about the fact that Register360 downloads and imports at the same time. I'm so use to beginning the import process and walking way for an hour or so, that it didn't even dawn on me.
Long story short, I was able to download everything on my return trip from Oakland to Forest Grove. Meaning I could drop it off in route and save myself a 2.5hr round trip to deliver it at a later date. I started the process in Dunnigan and it was complete by the time I got to Medford. I did have to make multiple stops to change batteries and start the process again. That was for 19 setups since I was able to get 3 done the night before. I, or should I say the owner, really needs to figure out why the data management software is not working. The time won't be a problem for their needs but I sure won't work for a job of any size when you consider that fact that I was able to collect the 22 scans in about 2 hours and 1.25 batteries.
