12 ft tall, metal, smooth, out in the middle of nowhere.

We were surveying in Nevada in early 80's in middle of nowhere and came across this concrete cantilevered structure.?ÿ I used it for a foresight and kept surveying toward it.?ÿ Then got a call from my foresighted rodmen 2 miles away that 2 dobermans had them pinned down and then 2 persons on horseback showed up with guns.?ÿ I go down and talk to them, tell them what we are doing and its getting dark.?ÿ They (caretakers) invited us for dinner, let us use the bunk house (we were camping), and fed us sourdough pancakes the next morning along with some wild tales.?ÿ The owner and his buddy just left the day before and showed us the large sculpture in the barn they were working on.?ÿ Was Warhol's barn art and Heinzer's concrete structure.?ÿ Just never know.

@hpalmer

I just looked him up. One of his "art" pieces is literally a trench he dug. Apparently a lot of high end work is happening all around me and I didnt even know it.?ÿ?ÿ

Then there are these, some still in the middle of nowhere. I'd really be scratching my head if I didn't know the history of them and walked up on one.

It looks to me like the radius point.

After all the thousands of miles I've walked through the deserts of the western USA, if I walked up and saw that thing, after seeing tail fins, sheared fuzes, drill casings, et al....I just turn back around and get the hell away from that thing.....

Didn't these idiots ever learn about the Tall Man????????

I can't measure it exactly, but it looks to be about 0.3 too far south.

There are a few videos of the monolith's location spattered across the interweb.?ÿ Apparently the BLM was counting sheep by helicopter when the structure was first sighted.

Here's my take:?ÿ With all the weirdos in the world (including myself) that would like to visit the site I'm sure there is a collective effort to keep the exact location under wraps.?ÿ I can understand that.?ÿ But the surveyor in me wants to know.?ÿ ?ÿI've gleaned the available info and made a swag?ÿthat the location is probably somewhere in Washington County, UT.?ÿ And the red rock areas in that county are fairly determinate.?ÿ Now assuming the monolith is terrestrial in origin you have to factor in the logistics.?ÿ It appears to be stainless steel.?ÿ I'm going to go a step further and guess it was shop built and then installed.?ÿ

Without even factoring in the cost the magnitude of the project is impressive.?ÿ It had to be transported to the site and it's installation was done with something other than a shovel and prospector's pick.?ÿ My point is there has to be access to site.?ÿ Personally I'm interested in its geodetic location.?ÿ If I was going to spend 50K for the sculpture and maybe that much again for installation I would definitely put it somewhere on our orb that meant something.?ÿ Maybe some even number on the lat-long or something like that.?ÿ It makes my mind wander.

So with all these clues and all the fine minds there are around here; is anybody else willing to venture any guesses?

Here you go. Someone on Reddit figured out the location based on the filed flight plan.

So it isn't round number lat-lon in the usual datums. Haven't checked UTM. Nothing obvious about the terrain there as opposed to that for miles around.is there a simple relationship to PLSS?

Could be something to do with Ley line fanatics who felt a convergence was there?
