SWMBO traveled to visit family yesterday. As preparation she got a second booster a couple of weeks ago. Since she had such a rough time with Pfizer she got Moderna this time. It was maybe better marginally, but she was very sick for about 3 days and it lasted for over a week. She got the shot in the morning and later in that same day Hawaii discontinued the safe travel program so she didn't need it to travel after all.?ÿ
Then early yesterday she got on the plane to Denver, then to LA, then the last leg to Kona. When they landed the pilot came on to tell all the passengers the mask mandate was over. Although the plane was cheering and everyone was giddy to get rid of them SWMBO wasn't all that happy to know it ended on before her Denver LA leg and she could have had it off for most of the day.?ÿ
I told her that her timing was impeccable. She, of course, asked me when I found out and I told her after she boarded to LA,,,,,,,I think,,,,it might have been when she was still in Denver.?ÿ
Why didn't I tell her??ÿ
I got nothing..........
There's no way to answer that one.?ÿ
If I wear a mask, and I don't need to because the mandate is over, and it's the worse thing that happens to me today; I'm going to have a pretty good day...
I can't believe how many people I see driving alone in a car with a mask on. Do they just enjoy suffocating? Do they think it is fashionable? Is their car contagious? I am not aware of a single business in my county (can't speak for health care facilities) where a mask is required and it has been that way since last fall. Glad the travel mandate was lifted by the court, not that I plan to travel any time soon.
@spmpls I think they obviously aren't suffocating and the mask bothers them so little that they either forget to take it off or just aren't even aware that they still have it on. Suprisingly, wearing a mask is not traumatic for everyone.
Surprisingly, wearing a mask is not traumatic for everyone
Some folks think it's there to protect them; it's not, it's there to protect everyone else, from your germs.
Surgeons don't wear masks to protect them from their patients; they wear them to protect their patients from the germs they exhale.

Please don't think this is a political discussion; it's not. Wearing a mask has nothing to do with politics...
@spmpls?ÿ
I have a neighbor that's always wearing hers as she drives around, then I found out she transports some of her fathers older friends around town,,,,,,,,,,I was glad I never teased her about when her brother told me why she was doing it.?ÿ

99.9% of the masks I see worn are essentially super spreader tools. The person breaths into it, collecting all their various fluids, and then they touch the mask. Then they touch something else and there you go.
If the purpose of keeping the mask on is to limit touching, then it is a good idea. My favorite is restaurants. I havent seen a single cook, waiter, whatever that didn't constantly adjust their mask then touch anything and everything.?ÿ
I have always felt that washing the hands, not touching my face, and having physical separation are important and easily implemented.?ÿAdding in PPE, especially without training and accountability to that training, is always a crap shoot. Sometimes it can increase the risk.
The most infuriating thing is the politicization of these things. Show me the numbers, but even the studies and all the rest seem to be warped. Finding trustworthy advisors seems to get more and more difficult, and that costs lives and money in all sorts of areas, not just COVID prevention.

Yep, who cares if someone is wearing a mask...or not...in their car.
@spmpls the City of Philadelphia recently reinstituted the wearing of masks at indoor businesses, ironically, a few days later the mask wearing was overruled on public transportation and in sports venues.?ÿ The City is now being sued to remove the mandate.
Do they just enjoy suffocating?
If you're suffocating, because you're wearing a mask, you're doing it wrong...

This.?ÿ Ran into the last stalwart mask-wearer in our office in the lavatory recently.?ÿ I noticed he skipped the hand-washing portion of the operation.
Awarding 0/10 for effective implementation.
Useless cloth mask, naturally.

From OSHA:
Procedures for selecting respirators for use in the workplace:
(a list of things...including:)
Medical evaluation/clearance to determine if users are physically fit to wear a respirator.
So, maybe they are suffocating...
Mask or no mask, whatever you do, don't sneeze!!

Back when I was young I worked for a company that made mini gas refineries (pulling propane out of natural gas fields).?ÿ
One of the jobs was to paint the structure and that was me. I would have to work late into the night with a Hazmat suit and respirator. You couldn't wear them too long,,,,it wasn't healthy. But what always struck me was the amount of paint that made it through the filters anyway.

As a teenager I worked in my uncle's orchard applying pesticides.?ÿ I wore a respirator and goggles (implemented as rigorously as you might expect a 14-year-old to implement such things).?ÿ I remember he told me "...if you can smell it, you're breathing it..."?ÿ
Ah.... the odor of 2,4 D....... ????ÿ
A regional musician had a song about why he left farming to do carpentry work. It mentioned several ag chemicals, and the chorus went something like ...
I got two four dee and NH3 raining down on me. It's springtime in the country.

Over? Don't hold your breath. ?????ÿ

The U.S. Justice Dept. said after the judge's ruling that they would appeal the decision if the CDC determines they are still needed for travel.
No disrespect to others here, but none of you are epidemiologists so your layperson notions of what is proper (even if you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express) do not rise to the level of the science-based determinations of the CDC.

It was late February of 2020 and I was flying to Kona for a little get away and two rows in front of me was a guy hacking and sneezing his head off, clearly in the throws of the flu or something. The overhead light is shining down on him and every time he hacks or sneezes, that light illuminated the plume of snot aerosol slowly drifting in my direction. I quietly thought to myself there is no way I am not going to catch what he's got. This was just as the first cases of Covid were showing up in the US. Spent nearly my entire vacation just sick as a dog. Don't care what anyone says or thinks, I'll be wearing an N95 mask flying from here on out while packed in there like sardines with a bunch of strangers.
