We have a new gold standard for rudeness and I am the center of the universe. The bar has now been raised so high most of us will never be able to approach it.
In church last night there was a family in the row near us. Possibly the mother, bunch of kids, and the grandparents. None of them familiar to me. Two of the girls were there to be baptized. I gather grandpa was there to see the girls but otherwise would rather have been anywhere else.
During the sermon his phone rings. Bad enough, but he takes the call and proceeds to talk loudly. I kid you not – he did. A woman nearby went over and asked him to stop. He ignored her – very important phone call, apparently. One of the communion servers asked him to stop. He ignored her. Grandma sat there staring straight ahead with a stony expression on her face, apparently used to his ignorance.
When the service was over last I saw an usher was talking to him and security was standing nearby ready for action.
Just loud talking during concerts is not uncommon.
I find it very annoying.

There have been enough shootings in churches that security is now essential. Most churches have someone, usually retired law enforcement, who does a search for explosives, and generally stays near the pastor. The nut cases are all around us. Sad but true.

i don't think jesus would have minded at all. if he did mind he would of just let it go - he was a pretty easy going guy from what i've heard.
Churches often have controls in place to account for the problems of the world.
Accounting controls are very common (dishonest people go to church too).
I always pack when I'm in church.

In our little church, the preacher would have stopped. After a few seconds it would be suggested that we all listen in on what must be an extremely important phone call. Then we all would have turned and stared at the jerk until he left or shut up.
A friend visited the Tower of London.
He said someone took a phone call during the tour.
The Beefeater tour guide said very sternly, "Give me the phone! The phone, give it to me!"
She handed it over and he spoke into the phone, "She's busy right now and will call you back!" and hung up.
I was gonna say, the pastors I've had the priviledge of knowing would have without missing a beat given the guy his 15 seconds of 'fame' - not to disrespect him, but to get him to realize the disrespect he is displaying to those around him & to a house of worship in general. This pastor should've taken the reins on that from the get-go. Never needed any security in the churches I've been in either.
I do too, and I am not kidding. Just don't tell my mom. 😉

Very true, but I seem to recall hearing that there was an occasion or two that he did not suffer fools too gladly.
