My recovery from surgery seems as though it's on a positive course.?ÿ This was indicated this afternoon when I was allowed by my wife to drive to the corner grocery store by myself.?ÿ It was a big day let me tell you.?ÿ

As happy as I was to get my wings back, the afternoon could not have turned out more disastrous.?ÿ After checking out in the store, I pushed my cart out to the parking lot only to find my truck had been stolen.

I really couldn't remember exactly where I had parked, but it's a small lot and my truck was nowhere to be found.?ÿ After methodically checking each row?ÿAND vehicle I came to a conclusion that left a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach: my truck was gone.?ÿ With trembling hands I fumbled with?ÿmy phone and called my wife.?ÿ We went through the usual "YES I've looked everywhere and NO it's really not here.?ÿ?ÿI was so frazzled I needed her to make the call to report the theft.?ÿ I was also going to need?ÿher to come get me...preferably before my ice cream began to melt.

But?ÿbeing the rock and pillar of calm upon which I rely so often, my dear wife had one more idea.?ÿ "Press the alarm on your key fob and sound the horn beep" she said.?ÿ Great idea.?ÿ In my confusion I hadn't thought of that.?ÿ I rifled my pockets to find my keys.

NO KEYS!?ÿ Shit.?ÿ No wonder the truck was stolen. I had apparently left the keys with the truck.?ÿ The only key I had in pocket was one lone "spare" key I use when........I.........drive........my wife's Jeep.?ÿ About the time I realized I had driven her car (AND it was only three parking spots from where I was standing), she had decided to peek out the window to see my truck sitting in the drive.

She affectionately suggested, "Look for the Jeep, Rocket".?ÿ (It's an endearing name she calls me from time to time).

OK.?ÿ I'm calm now and glad as hell I straightened that out.?ÿ But now my wife is pretty sure I have lost my mind and she wants to call any available friend or relative that can intervene and keep my demented butt from driving home.?ÿ To keep her calm I had to lay the phone in the seat next to me, and with the speaker phone talk to her all the way home.

Women really do overact is all I've got to say. ??ÿ

Don't push yourself old man?ÿ ??ÿ

A few years back I ruptured my esophagus and spent an unintended vacation in the hospital, with the whole "internal bleeding, passing out, transfusions, emergency surgery" thing. ?ÿ

I came out of the hospital like the month of March, feeling like a lamb. ?ÿProbably aged five years in five days. ?ÿYou don't have to like what an experience similar to yours does to you, but you have to respect it. ?ÿ

I've lost my vehicle many times over the past 30 years. ?ÿThe problem revolved around getting so focused at doing research at a specific courthouse that when it came time to leave I could not remember which one of six doors I had used to enter the building. ?ÿThe vehicle would be close to the correct door. ?ÿThat problem has been almost entirely eliminated by the modern "security " concerns that has eliminated five of those doors as entry points. ?ÿIt was alarming to stroll out the wrong door and discover no familiar vehicle.

BTW, Mr. J, what the heck happened to you? ?ÿIt must have been quite serious to get your brothers to visit but now you are running around on non-essential errands. ?ÿConfusing.

I'd prefer that to a 15 minute lecture from SWMBO about being non-attentive, aka stupid, and another 10 minutes of bla,bla,bla... I don't listen to.?ÿ ?

?ÿTake care man.

Oh man- they think they're so funny sometimes....?ÿ

One positive thing- if she was on the phone with you, she wasn't on the phone with your kids giving them the whole lowdown....

In my childhood my Father's car disappeared one day.?ÿ Dad called the Bakersfield PD and a whole bunch of them showed up (it was a different time, good luck getting interest in a stolen anything from the local John Law these days).?ÿ They were taking reports and talking to Dad when Mom drove up in Dad's car LOL.?ÿ I was only about 5 in 1967 so I have no idea how much trouble my Dad got in over that.

Probably not near as much trouble as four of us got into in HS?ÿfor "stealing" the wrestling coach's VW (he kept a key under the floor mat) and parking it two blocks over.?ÿ ??ÿ

I didn't know those even needed a key.

I would have guessed that when someone as old as you was in HS, the cars would have started by pushing a button while your buddy turned the crank below the radiator.

?ÿ

The varsity football coach at my HS drove a bug.?ÿ One day his team placed it on the canopy over the main entrance of the school.?ÿ Not sure how they did it or how they managed to not get caught in the act.?ÿ I wasn't involved, but heard they got in a bit of trouble over that one.?ÿ?ÿ

Don't forget the required "exhaust" end bag too.
