I was a frequent and longtime poster on the old RPLS.COM message board back nearly 20 years ago. I found it lively and generally a enjoyable diversion from the daily grind. Humorous banter and sometimes an occasional survey post. However more often than not it became dominated by politics and religion related matters and I couldnt read a thread without some mention of political crap or religious stuff. My god is better than your god or my political party is superior to yours.

Well I left I believe in about 2008 and didn't think about it until recently until I thought to see if the board still existed. I discovered this one kinda took over. I like this one a lot better keep it up and so long as it does not devolve into a bunch of petty mud slinging insults and attempts to one up insult another.

I like reading the posts and often wonder if you chucklenheads have ghost writers. There are a few who seem too smart for their own good and try to impress others with their vast storehouse of inexhaustible useless knowledge stored in their cranium, a fella in Austin comes to mind, but nevertheless this is far better than its predecessor.

Funny, I was thinking about the old message board just this morning. I agree, haven't looked at that other board in a long time.

You can still swap insults, but they have to be done in a friendly way,
You can thank me later.
(after you recouperate, from the complete shredding, I'm fixin to dish out)
Best Regards

Honestly, once it devolves into mere insults, I ignore it.

It's a good forum.

Pass the coffee, would ya?

Nate

"others with their vast storehouse of inexhaustible useless knowledge stored in their cranium"

Heavy emphasis on the "useless" part and you have me nailed. I have the ability to bore people for long periods of time so long as they continue to breath and blink their eyes from time to time. But, this is normally tied to my hobby of researching local history and the genealogy of the early families in my home county. Typically, I know far more about someone's family than they do.

One example. Yesterday I was chatting with a lifelong friend about her father and his first wife and wondering where they were living in 1940 when the census taker came by their home. To the best of my knowledge her father had never lived anywhere other than a certain township. In 1940 he was listed in a different township. She was surprised to learn he had ever lived in a different area, as well. Apparently, his life prior to his marriage to her mother in 1945 didn't come up much for family discussion. Possibly because it was a rather unfortunate time in his life as he and his first wife had a baby girl with severe physical problems leading to her death at an early age.

(See what I mean!!!!!!!)

Another example from Saturday. I was chatting with a lady in her 40's about how her husband's aunt had tried to shock me recently by telling me that this lady and her husband were "sort of" related to each other. I blew auntie's mind by telling her that this specific lady was already related to herself at birth. That's the truth. Auntie didn't know what I knew. This lady's mother's father was a first cousin once removed to her father's mother. To add to the family tree not forking is the fact that her husband's grandmother and her mother's father were siblings.

I would submit that a slight correction is in order in that generally you do not "bore people for long periods of time" but rather are you can be boring for long periods of time. It a small difference in wording but a yugely significant difference in meaning. Knowing when to nod your head and have another sip of good bourbon and stay silent is important.

And I say this simply because if you bore someone they tend to go to sleep or go elsewhere and you have to find another poor smuck to bore and you start over again.

That may be so. Let's debate this at length....................................................................................................................

(With Kent gone we are down to arguing over the need, or not, for commas, in our writings.)

Warning...do not discuss Kent in his absence at the risk of the thread disappearing and the culprit getting a stern talking too 😉 Please confine your discussion to malformed tacks and the incredible powers of Javad products.

I know you're going to exclaim: "How could you not know that so and so where put in the penalty box", but I seriously did not know and since nobody informed me until now I sorta figured it was a super secret and since I did not have the decoder ring nor did I know of the secret handshake I was deemed a undercover agent sent down to spy on the Dew Club.

Y'all are right to be suspicious.

It wasn't announced who, but it was discussed in a different thread. I know/knew of three but don't know if there were more. The third one that Nate didn't name, that I know about, was a guy named 'Scott Ellis', a Texan, who seemed to be trying to imitate Kent's sarcasm about PLSSia. I don't think childlike behavior is limited to an age group or a particular profession. Anyone can join here, and we can get some real goofballs sometimes.
