Hello fellow surveyors.I just registered and wanted to say hi to everyone. I am 31 y/o. I have been studying since 03 - working in the profession since 05 - licensed since 07. I currently work for a small engineering/surveying firm as a staff surveyor.
DDSM referred me to this site as recommended reading, and I look forward to reading through some of the material here.
Thanks to those that operate the forum.
Welcome, Aboard
Or, should that be, "Welcome, joe 51?"
You should find this to be one of the best possible resources you will even encounter. Ask, and it shall be answered. "It depends", being the most common answer.
Welcome!
so, tell us who you are and where do you call home?

Welcome, Joe51!
Glad you could stop by. Hope to see you here on an ongoing basis. 🙂

Well hello there Joe51!! Great name too as my grandpa was named Joe. Glad you are here and feel free to join in wherever you please. The guys and girls here are a great buncha folks. :hi5:  :good:  :star: :gift: :pizza:
And, as you will soon find out, some have an obvious addiction to emoticons.

You do not have to reveal all your innermosts secrets to us here. You can remain semi-anonymous if you choose to do so.
Sometimes it helps in a post if you indicate you are asking a question that might be specific to a certain state or city just so the responders can respond better. The Californicators and Texicans do not understand most of the rest of the universe and vice versa. Some think those in PLSS states are following a cookbook which makes their jobs incredibly simple. The rest of us know better.
Now that is a small world. My grandpa was named 51.
Joe
You guys are correct to point out my error of not giving my location. I am working in Hot Springs, AR.
as to Peter Ehlert's question of "tell us who you are..." I will give Holy Cow's favored response of "it depends", and I will return after work to finish answering that questions.
Thanks for the welcome, everyone.
We are close but not related. My mom's side of the family were 52's.
Joe
Holy,
thats why i got registered in both states:-)
That's probably an Americanization of the Swedish 51, Deral. Probably some bureaucratic clerk at Ellis Island.

Joe, glad to see every new 'face' around here. "It depends" is always a good answer.
Sounds like you're doing alright. As in, you have access to the ether! :-),...
"Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home".
Take care,

Hey Joe!
Looking forward to your posts.

Some of the old timers in a couple adjoining counties were known by the coal camps where their parents were living at the time of their birth. Camp 50, for example, produced people known as The Camp 50's or The 50's. Similar names for those from other coal camps. A former co-worker was a 47. In those days, most of the coal mines were strip pits being worked with horses, mules and small draglines. Many workers were fresh immigrants from eastern and southern europe.
Well, "Community" is pushing touchy/feely a little bit
-just don't start talking about "Geo-spacial Proffessionals" or you may get voted off the island.....;-)
Don't know this Swedish 51 deal...
But my Swedish relatives celebrate their 77th birthdays as a big deal....as it is pronounced...at least in Central Texas...as "whootie whooo"
Don't know this Swedish 51 deal...
Hey Joe...where you goin with that gun in your hand.

I am amazed at the attention the 51 has got. You know, I have used the same user-name on 8 or so different forums and the like, and no one has keyed in on it like you guys.
Here's the real deal, although I like the member stories better. The 51 is an old jersey number from my high school football days. I use it because "Joe" seems to be fairly common, and I like having a user-name I can use everywhere. Keeps things simple not having to remember 8 user-names, and people will recognize me if they catch me on another forum.
I said I would come back and answer the question "tell us who you are...", but that question proved to exceed the word count. Instead, I will just tell you a little about myself.
Married 10 years, 3 children : Austin 5, Kaylee 7, Robbyn 13. On the weekends we are not running, we enjoy hiking, swimming, fishing, and Robby loves basketball. During the week, if I am not reading or working till too late, I am learning the guitar.
Did I tell you who I am? - - Well no, just some facts about myself, but hopefully enough to satisfy your curiosities. 😛
Thanks again for all the kind welcomes. I will be creeping around the site for a while before my next post, probably. Good Day All!!
