Or famous persons?
I knew, personally, Gabby Hayes, before he passed in 1969.
Affable character. I don't think he was acting... I think that was the real Gabby!

I met Charles Robinson in a bar once about 14 years ago. He played Mac Robinson the court clerk in Night Court and his demeanor is the same in real life. He was also on The Bernie Mac Show, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Home Improvement and a few other shows.
Very nice guy. He bought me a shot Goldschlager.

I don't know anybody famous. I kinda know people that know people that are famous but that's about it.
Famous people I'd like to know include Bob Dylan and Keith Richards. If they or their people happen to be monitoring Beerleg or SurveyorConnect, the contact info in my profile is good.
I stepped on Sebastian Cabot's foot in a swimming pool in Reno in the late 1950's. That, and living in the house once owned by the sister of Eva Marie Saint, is the closest I've come to knowing anyone famous.
I met Gary Bussey and Linda something (Wonder Woman) when I operated T-bar at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in the Spring of 1982.
Gary was a really nice guy, a good old boy redneck type and super entertaining in real life.

I didn't think that "knowing" a famous person would include contact such as stepping on their feet. In that case, I "know" most of the major cast of Bonanza because I sat on Lorne Greene's (Pa) lap at a supermarket opening in Reno (I was a little boy at the time), I shook hands with Dan Blocker (Hoss) at the Harrah's auto museum and saw Michael Landon (Little Joe) filming an episode of LHOP out the window of a restaurant in San Andreas. So there. Is Pernell Roberts still alive? Maybe I should stalk him and Hop Sing to complete the story.
We were skiing at Sun Valley Idaho when I stopped into the pro shop at the bottom of the mountain. The girl behind the counter caught my eye, but I couldn't place her. I walked to the counter and said "this isn't a come-on, but don't I know you"? She said "Of course you do dummy, we worked together at the ski shop back in Charlotte for a year"! I couldn't believe it, Gail! She had gone to art school in San Francisco and was at Sun Valley for a couple months to ski-work through one last season before getting a "real" job.
We were catching up for a few minutes when she motioned to someone behind me. As I stepped aside to let them to the counter, I came face-to-face with Tom Hanks. Me, Gail and Tom Hanks are the only ones in the shop. I was gobsmacked. The only thing I could think of to say was "Oh man, do you know who you are"? Gail fell out. Tom said "I do, and it's nice to know who you are"! He paid for his stuff and walked out laughing. Very nice person to meet.
It never occurred to me to grab one the disposable cameras off the counter and get a pic with him, I regret that.
Later in the week I saw Bruce Willis at a snack bar, happy dude, that Bruce!
Some else said that Arnold Swarzenegger was around too.
Seems like Sun Valley is a good spot for star gazing.
Skiing don't suck either!

I had numerous classes at UCF with Matt Baylis, the guy who gives the correct answer to Col. Sanders Medulla Oblongata question! He was an extra in the film which was being made in Orlando. The football stadium in the big game is the Citrus Bowl if I am not mistaken. Funny thing was that I didn't know he was in the movie until long after I met him. No big deal about meeting a famous person in my opinion. I joked with Matt that I was going to get him to sign my Waterboy DVD someday! Never did though.

Don't bother -- he died last year.
Further stretching the concept of "knowing," I shook hands with Willie Mays sometime in the early '60s, and got a ball autographed by Harvey Kuenn. (Don't know what happened to it; it succumbed to childhood cluelessness.)

I surveyed Richard Dreyfuss' house on Mulholland Drive while he was still famous for "Close Encounters.."
He come out to show us around the place and my helper was "gobsmacked" I'm underwhelmed with "famous" people, especially those who are famous just for being famous.
We later surveyed his neighbor's place, Doc Severenson(SP?) from the "Tonight Show".
I've shaken hands with Johnny Cash, Kris Kristoferson, and chatted with Garrison Keiller and John Dawson (New Riders Fame)...and have had drinks with Gen. Jones (ret)
I met Jacque Cousteau in a toy store I was working at back in the 70'...the same week the Lady from Mel's Dinner came in.
I surveyed Sweet Pea Whittaker's house back in the mid nineties. He came out after a few hours and asked what I was doing in his yard....he had no clue why I was there or even what I was trying to accomplish.
I bought lunch with my wife's charge card for Deral Paulk and Michael Porter at a Mexican restaraunt in Lawton a few years ago.
Almost run over by Steve Martin one day walking into a convenience store in Dallas.
Mom's cousin married Davey Jones from the Monkees.
As for someone really current or famous I don't think someone who is a really good friend would say anything as those entertainers probably have enough pressure from their fame as it is. Sometimes it is sufficient just to know someone famous and your relationship doesn't depend on telling everyone else.
Zac Brown (used to listen to him at Dixie Tavern, friends with my wife, we broke up and they dated for a year, then i stole her back!!!)
Paul Azinger, Hubert Green (golfers) met Azinger at a golf course in Bradenton, Fl
Matt Capps (Baseball) went to school with, had save in all star game this year
Gabrielle Reese (volleyball, model) escorted around a concert for a couple hours as security, in a past life
Travis Tritt (lives close by, kids took dance from swmbo)
wifes friend ran into Winonna Ryder a couple weeks ago at a bar in Atlanta...
Ace from the real world
Suede, from Project Runway, was in my wife's store a week ago last Saturday, promoting his line of simplicity patterns.
Nice guy...
O'Neal Compton....he was the sheriff in "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman"....remember that? 🙂 He also was the Texas oil man on two Seinfeld episodes. He's from my hometown, Sumter, SC.

I'm not well acquainted with anyone famous, but have met a lot.
I was head volunteer sound tech for 9 years at an arts place that brought in touring acts. We ranged from the totally unknown, to people that do Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage, to international acts making brief USA tours. So I've worked with hundreds of performers, including Tom Paxton, BeauSoleil, Greg Brown, the Roches, Buckwheat Zydeco, Janis Ian, the Tuvan throat overtone singers (3 groups), the Battlefield Band, Old Blind Dogs, the Holmes Brothers, C.J. Chenier, Mark O'Connor, Eliza Gilkyson, Tish Hinojosa, Lucy Kaplansky, John McCutcheon, Maria Muldaur, and David Wilcox. Those are a few among the names some of you might recognize if your musical taste isn't locked into one genre.
Some of the biggest names are really nice people. Paxton and the Roche sisters come to mind.
Just the other day I was 4 feet from Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, after his lecture at a university. But I didn't get to converse with him due to the horde of others with questions.
And, hey, I've traded emails with Dave Doyle, Jobo, Loyal Olson, Jerry Wahl, Scott Zelenak, Dave Karoly, RADU, and others. In the surveying world, their fame should trump any number of sitcom characters and singers. I still need to find some reason to talk to Deral so I can claim I've talked with most of the famous ones.
I used to live 2 houses down from the actor Sidney Blackmere in Salisbury, NC.
Was an extra in "Intimate Strangers" with Teri Garr and Stacy Keach in 1985, filmed at Kingsley Plantation, Florida. We extras would be sitting down eating our free meal when someone would say "get up you scum, the stars need to eat now", and we would scramble away from the table. My friend passed Terri G on the stairs and she niceley said hello. I was intensley watching Keach do a scene, and he looked over at me like "WTF you lookin' at?"
Met Bart Starr with about 12 other boys at a school after he retired.
