Got to spend the afternoon with my daughter working a boundary today.?ÿ It's a pro bono job we're doing for a local non-profit so she got to learn how to work hard for free but I think?ÿshe enjoyed her time with Dad.?ÿ I'm just glad?ÿI'm still on?ÿher cool team.?ÿ
?ÿ
Wow! What a wonderful moment. Time spent with a willing child is priceless! She is cute! Nice toys!?ÿ ??ÿ
If she takes a likin' ta surveying she will be able to outperform the The Ol' Man (ie, you) hisself sooner than you think. !?ÿ ? ?ÿ
I would like to caution any parent taking their offspring to the field for a day of surveying as it may have unintended consequences.
I was probably about the age of the young'n in the pic when Pops started conscripting?ÿmy help?ÿon surveying sojourns.?ÿ Sixty years later my skin looks like alligator hide, I'm a host for tick borne illnesses and I cuss like a sailor.?ÿ My eyes are clouded from cataracts partially due to UV exposure and I count my paces with my head down?ÿas?ÿI walk..with a mumbled gait similar to Quasimodo.?ÿ
Be careful what seeds you plant in young minds.... ??ÿ
"My eyes are clouded from cataracts"?ÿ
Fer cripes sake go get them removed with Laser surgery. Mine ain't bad yet, but when they are the first place I'm headed is for laser surgery.?ÿ ??ÿ

Get off my lawn!?ÿ They can't learn what they don't like by not doing things although?ÿwhat 12 year old?ÿdoesn't like running around a boundary looking for buried treasure with the metal detector and magic box that talks to the satellites?
I used to get my son to go with me to jobs for brief spells on Saturday mornings.?ÿ The bribe was lunch at MacDonalds.?ÿ Last week he got his Oregon PLS License.?ÿ ?ÿ
I let my youngest son go with me when doing small jobs for friends or helping them locate their corners based on their deed. He is now 23 years old and has been a crew chief for over 5 years.
Currently he's in New Mexico working as a one man crew.
Get that gal a short-handled shovel, a digging bar and a Schonstedt. ?ÿThat's what surveying is all about. ?ÿSniffing' out old monuments.
Dad! The young lady needs a proper survey vest or tool belt.?ÿ

I didn't have a tool belt small enough and I'm told the vest didn't match her shoes ??ÿ ? ??ÿ I let it slide, one of the few?ÿbenefits of being the boss.
Mrs. Cow is a pretty slick seamstress. She took up a vest for my daughter and we have gotten some good use out of it. No one likes a vest that doesn't fit or don't complement the boots either. You could probably have a pink one made.?ÿ

I didn't get laser surgery because insurance (nor Medicare) would pay for laser.?ÿ Knife, yes.?ÿ Laser, no.?ÿ Still I HIGHLY recommend getting cataracts removed.?ÿ It was like being able to see again.?ÿ I do have to wear sunglasses almost all the time now though.

?ÿKnife, yes.??? That's called a radial keratotomy which is an antiquated surgical procedure no longer performed by Ophthalmologists. I had laser surgery in 1995 for myopia. No glasses whatsoever except sunglasses when needed. The correction created monovision which corrects one eyeball for distance and the other for reading. Your brain accepts this phenomena immediately, therefore you can see up close and far away with no distortion.
I'm going back to the same Opothomologist
I believe you come to FL occasionally, you might want to check out their website. I'm sure Atlanta has the same quality Opthamologists.?ÿ ? ?ÿ
?ÿ
I had the monovision done as well. Lasik. I really like it. Had some halo issues at first but now that's nothing. Even helped my trap scores.
That @paden-cash guy certainly is a master thread hijacker!?ÿ This thread was supposed to be about how cute my damn kid is not failing eyesight and the various corrective options available.?ÿ SMH ??ÿ
Funny you suggest that, hi-viz in that colour combined with blue is definitely, recently, de rigueur, down this way, and although pink is my all time least favourite colour, in the hi-viz get-up I think it looks great. Just get it tailored to suit the form of the wearer, and you'll be good to go.
IMHO, teaching right and wrong ... I can't work that one out ... but now these days should include how to stay safe, at home, at work, wherever, and learn from and use the advice of those who weren't informed at the time but now wish they were.
Cameron,
She's a cutie for sure. She looks to be roughly the same age as my granddaughter, who is 7. Your picture brings back memories of when I took one of my three girls out with me on more than one occasion to measure around buildings. I would write the point number very small in lead pencil on the corner so I could rub it off when we were done. My daughter caught on quick, and had a blast helping Daddy! That was back in 2002-2004.
I'll be walking her down the aisle at her wedding on Saturday. She is 24 now, and all grown up. Thankfully she is marrying a pretty good fella.
Enjoy them while they are small, and spend as much time with them as you can. They grow up in the blink of an eye. Trust me, I know, mine are now 26, 24, and 20.
