Abe said many amazing things, or so I learn on the internet these days. ?ÿBTW, did you know he invented the internet decades before Al Gore was born?

To my wife's objection, I brought home an old 8N Ford tractor (classic grey/red/rusted?ÿ 39-52 era ) with flat tires to restore .?ÿ She could not understand how all?ÿ the neighborhood?ÿ men and boys could get so excited about an old rusted tractor as they all helped me unload her off the trailer:).?ÿ I had to explain to her that there came a time in all men's lives when an old tractor was more exciting than ..... a lot of other things. :). Nice! An original International Harvester Extend-a-ladder bucket attachment. Later marketed under the DeathTrap brand.

Funny this thread should come up. I have lusted after a tractor for a long time. I live in a townhouse with a postage stamp sized yard, so you can appreciate my frustration. Like Mr. Just A. Surveyor, I am not a farmer, and don't want to be a farmer, but there is something primal about driving a tractor. It's a testosterone thing, I guess. My wife said I could buy one when we bought some land, and we bought a 1 acre lot down on Harris Neck that fronts the marsh. I was all set to go tractor shopping, but the Missus apparently doesn't think 1 acre is enough land to warrant buying a tractor. I told her I would just get a little tractor, but no luck. You farm boys don't know how lucky you are. On the other hand, if I had to drive one every day for a living, I'm sure the magic would wear thin.

Should be the owner of nine little used-to-be-orange tractors soon. ?ÿPackage deal for all nine plus miscellaneous fenders, seats and wheels. ?ÿSome manufactured prior to WWII. ?ÿSome newer. ?ÿShould anyone be searching for a fixer-upper Allis- Chalmers, let me know.

I live on about 3 acres (I'm a surveyor, you'd think I'd know how much I own) a few miles outside of town.?ÿ About half of its in trees and the other half in yard and its kind of hilly.?ÿ About 10 years ago I bought a Kubota BX2350.?ÿ Its a water cooled diesel and about as small as you can get and still call it a tractor.?ÿ I have a long driveway also, about 600 feet long.?ÿ I have an end loader, rear blade, brush hog?ÿand a 60"?ÿmid mount mower for it.?ÿ?ÿ I've got about 700 hours on it now and I don't know how I got by with out it.?ÿ I only own 3 acres but its amazing how much dirt, gravel, fire wood, snow?ÿand mulch I've moved?ÿwith the end loader.?ÿ Rest of the time I've spent using it mowing the grass.?ÿ With front wheel assist its great on the hills. Including a trailer to move it, I've got maybe 14k wrapped up in it, so they aren't cheap.?ÿ They also haven't gone down in price any but they are a very handy tool.?ÿ?ÿ There is also a wide variety of tools and equipment you can hook up to the 3 point hitch on a tractor.

My dad traded in his WD and C Allis for one of those new green ones not too long ago.

Here's my Ford 8N?ÿboat anchor.?ÿ It is NOT a hobby.?ÿ The next time the front tire hits a rut and spins the steering wheel into my thumb it will be for sale...at a bargain price.

PS - How many of you all have ever put a starter motor on this model??ÿ That almost whipped me.

Is it possible to put a steering stabilizer on it that is commonly seen on trucks? Those are supposed to stop or minimize what you describe.

As well as not wrapping your thumb around the wheel.
