My head hurts, now
A bit too close to how the real world approaches the handling of issues they don't understand.....like boundary surveying.
too close to the truth
for some reason this video made me think of some people i know.
My wife is in a dispute with some of her relatives, and this video makes think of them
I think I remember doing a proposal for that project. Need to find the spread sheet.
the sadness of humor
What makes funny stuff funny sometimes is its proximity to sad insanity.
I sat through a meeting at city hall with the public works director and the city engineer with dialogue that was eerily similar.
The city needed a survey on a piece of property that was eventually going to be the new waste water treatment plant. The city didn't have any money in the budget for a "full blown" survey.
But that was ok in their eyes because they really didn't need a boundary survey; they just needed the corners marked. And they really didn't need a topo survey; they just needed a map showing the road and the utilities and spot elevations.
They didn't need a survey, they just needed something to get the consultant started on the design of the new plant. :pinch:
I felt like they were expecting me to tell them the proverbial, "I'm an expert, I can do anything."
No problem drawing 7 lines perpendicular to one another if you live in a 7 dimensional universe.
Problem solved.

I was at a meeting with a bridge consultant client and the engineering staff of a large city. The Project was the replacement of a block of viaduct in the heart of the city that had a very low sufficiency rating . The engineer presented every possible detour option for traffic during construction. City staff had objections to every option. After about two hours, I finally said this should be easy all you need to do is figure out what you are going to do when it collapses. 30 minutes latter, we had a solution.
Yeah, I drew them all in transparent ink.
Here's a picture:
the sadness of humor
It reminds me of when I worked for a large company which allowed, nay encouraged, project managers in other disciplines to manage survey projects their clients brought them, which lead to some interesting conversations when I refused to do things they had promised.
