I know nothing about surveyors or other equipment I got a friend of mine who keeps saying my "survey gun". What is a survey gun?
We use the "guns" to take "shots". That's part of our common lingo. With the total station, for example, a beam is emitted that shoots out to a reflective prism and bounces back to determine the distance it is away from the total station. As you move with the prism from point to point you are taking numerous "shots".
Now...........as to your name.................it is almost the exact reverse of the familiar advertising catch phrase for dairy products.....Got Milk?
Changing the k to f puts a radically different spin on the question.
Surveyors commonly refer to their "total station" instruments as a "gun". Total Stations measure angles in both the horizontal and vertical plane and also measure distances. They are the workhorse instrument in the surveyor toolkit.
The view through the 'gun' scope also closely resembles the view through a rifle scope with 'target' crosshairs. Taking a 'shot' at a prism also has similar parallels. Mostly though 'Gun' just sounds way cooler than totalstation or theodolite.
This is my rifle, this is my gun...
