Hi Everyone,

I just retired from a large international engineering and construction company and live near Augusta, GA. I'll be moving soon to the Charleston, SC area.

I went from surveying classes in school to working for mostly large and a few small companies during my career. With the smaller companies we did our own field work and then came back into the office and did our design in CAD. That was a lot of fun and a great learning experience.

I kind of skipped over the GPS scene when it was introduced since I was mostly doing design work. I have used them though.

I came back into the survey world and jumped into laser scanning and metrology using laser trackers in my more recent career. I also got involved with drones, digital pile driving and a few other techie things the past few years.

It's been awesome. We need to attract more younger people to the discipline.

Welcome! And yes, I agree, we need to work on getting more younger people. Fortunately, I've noticed an uptick here in the forum of younger users. Maybe that's a good sign. 🙂

I hope so. I think it's generally a problem with all of the trades too.

Right now a young person can have a pretty decent career after some good training, mentorship, school or all of the above.
