A bit of a lurker here, so much great information! I'm going into my senior year in a Surveying Engineering program. I've discovered a lot of useful things within RPLS over the past couple years and with the exit exam, FS, etc., on the horizon I'm thinking that I'll be seeking more targeted advice...time to sign up! I look forward to gleaning further wisdom here and growing in the profession as much as I can. Cheers!

Land surveying is a pregnant profession.
It has horse thieves, shortcutters, noble hard working folk.
It has it all. And, you will see it all condensed into one survey, 200 years of it.

Welcome. Tell all your bud's about this site. It is easier here to ask a question rather than spending hours "looking it up".
And always remember there is no such thing as a stupid question, at least not on this site. Feel free to jump right in, we need some "young guns" here. 😎

You're kidding; right? You've never met a Yooper (Upper)?

Gotta love me some Pasties...
And fried honey mustard rabbit!

Ha! Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I'm finishing my formal education at Michigan Tech.

Thanks to the posters thus far for the warm welcome.

Edit: Radar beat me to it. I'm a transplant, so I don't typically make the Yooper claim.

I respect those of us that choose to live in the colder climates of this planet.

Not that I don't respect those that wear tank tops and shorts to work year round; it's just that until you've experienced getting ready for work on a cold winter morning...

Welcome. Good deal getting a bachelors, you should be able to test in any state. A lot of us don't have that option.

Da UP is sort of a smoke plume primarily trailing off to the west northwest from the tip of the middle finger.

Next you must understand that people in Michigan routinely hold up their right hand (palm side) and point to some spot on it. The hand represents the shape of the lower peninsula and they are pointing to where they live or where they work or where they are going. You can witness this somewhere 365 days per year. I once lived about a half inch up from the bottom of the side of the right hand below the little finger. Detroit is in a similar location on the thumb side of the hand.

Si QuÌ?ris Peninsulam AmÒnam Circumspice, "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you," which is the official state motto.

I used to paraphrase that as: Hey, Dude. If you're lookin' fer a friendly peninsula, stop because you're already here.

That's our standard dress code for office employees. Flip flops or barefooted is OK too. Ya see, the more comfortable they are the more productive they are. And besides they don't have to spend enormous amounts of money on clothes so that cuts me more slack with respect to raise requests. 😀
