We're trying to figure out what to do with the domain BeerLeg.com. It was the original primary domain name used for this website, but we changed to a more firewall-friendly domain name, SurveyorConnect.com, in order to satisfy our corporate visitors. We want to retain the legacy that is BeerLeg.com, even though it was only king for a day or two.

We want to make it an important part of this new website and we'd like to get your feedback. I realize that I'm opening a can of worms here, because some folks don't like the new format. The old format is gone and it's not coming back. That's not to say that we won't be working on making some improvements here to mimic the old style in some ways, but that old, tired, insecure software is gone and buried. But that's not the point of this thread, so let's please just not go there.

We need your help in finding the best way to preserve and honor the BeerLeg name. The community itself actually turned it into the term "BeerLegger", which is used to describe an event where BL/SC users gather for a beer or two. Because of this legacy, we want to keep the name special and use it appropriately. So we invite you to participate in this poll and maybe even throw in some constructive criticism and/or suggestions.

Thanks!

It's still BeerLeg to me regardless of what it says at the top of the page. I fully understand the problem with the name. I suppose every time we refer to "beer" we are somehow creating problems in certain circles.

If BeerLeg must die, then it must die. But, I will mourn its loss much like I mourn the loss of certain television shows that I have enjoyed very much but which didn't satisfy the Nielsen ratings sufficiently. All it takes to kill a TV show is for me to decide it is one of my favorites.

I'd just let it go.

This whole idea began with BeerLeg and in the spirit of the site, for me this will always be BeerLeg

I never talk about what happened on SurveyorConnect, I talk about BeerLeg

I log on using the original saved site when all this did begin

To me, SurveyConnect.com is PR for the outside public looking in to see to their surveying needs from the actual Surveyors

BTW, this new format has its perks and your tweeks are making it better, last night I discovered the New Posts tab and it appears to show posts in order from now to earlier :good:

Keep BeerLeg.com

Doesn't really matter to me. I think I'm hooked up on SC.com now
Maybe burn the entire site to a DVD or other media and if someone wants to buy it and the domain name...
well you get my drift.
Did you copyright it? They'll have to buy that as well.
Just thinking in the wee early morning hour (about 0020 hours)

I can't see any good reason to permanently let it go.

All those ideas seem like good ones, however I do fall a little short in the creativity category when it comes to websites. I bet you come up with something cool though.

Maybe you could make it a "craigslist" for surveying instruments, equipment, vehicles and classifieds. It would be cool if you could squeeze some income out of it...whatever you do, keep the domain.

Oh, thanks for reminding me, my Go-Daddy bill is due...

re-direct it like it's doing now. I wouldn't go making another beerleg clone to satisfy a few folks. If you do that then this site might die!!! Leave it as is, and let's move forward 🙂

Keep it going with the old software, but only allow two members to post - Kent and Keith

Gift it to me! yuk-yuk. J/K.

It would be nice to have a site to archive operating and service manuals for any type of survey equipment old or new. People who have digital copies for those types of equipment could load them for anyone who would need them later on. For example if I had a manual for a 1911 K&E Transit, I could scan it to pdf and load it/have you load it on to the site for anyone to download later if they needed it.

Just an idea.

I still try to log on to Beerleg.com.

What I mean by a new forum, is to create a new forum within this site, such as General Land Surveying, GNSS & Geodesy, etc. Then beerleg.com would point specifically to that forum.

No thanks. By the way, thanks for cleaning up my language on that earlier post. Send me a bill for the soap.

OTHER : Redirect it for say 90 days then can it. That should appease your clients and allow others to switch.

Just my 0.40 (yes tenths)

Yeah, I put "trash it" as an option just for the heck of it. There's no way I'll ever give up that domain name.

Put TeDD in charge.

No holds barred.

Not really, but occasionally one has to let off steam.

BTW, when are we gonna get your cartoons back?

Hi Wendell,

I think it should remain as a redirect to SurveyorConnect, but also create the "Beer Legger" forum on Surveyor Connect. I guess I choose both 1 and 2.

Thanks,
Ryan.
