I admit that I didn't read a recent thread somewhere below about site upgrades, but I'm finding that the time lag between keyboard and screen when posting is so awkward and laggy that it's more natural to draft a post in a text editor and copy and paste to the message window than to deal with the delay if typing directly to the window.
Is the time lag mostly the result of a spell checker and, if so, is it possible to disable that for those of us who have our own ideas as to how to spell English words?
It must be on your end, Kent. I haven't noticed any lag between keyboard and the text window when replying to your post.
I intentionally misspelled some words to verify that the spell checker was 1) working and 2) not causing any lag.
Is 'Spell Check' on the Computer(browser) end or on the Server end?

We do not provide a spell checker on the site. Most browsers do have one built-in, so you might want to look at your browser settings. If you are getting that much of a slowdown, something else is going on. I would recommend a full virus and malware scan, plus maybe check to see if there's something running in the background that's eating up processor resources.
Does your cursor lag or disappear at times?
Your computer may be busy in the background or involved with an update sequence.
I've added a couple of programs to my computers that keep a count of the session traffic of what is going on in real time with file sharing and uploads and downloads and gives a readout of every file that passes thru my router and on each computer.
I did this after finding inconsistencies between what my provider HughesNet was claiming my download figures were in comparison to what my ledger tally was.
I don't have any DSL or other provider information to compare anything to. What I found was that in some instances, the provider was counting download data three times what the acutual download volume was.
The counters also showed a lot of unwanted usage caused by many adtracker and bots and other pesky routines using up my computer resources.
A regular dose of SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytesAntiMalware puts the machine back to it's former glory.
[sarcasm]Then again, it could be the chip that NSA has installed on your computer[/sarcasm]

I'm with Alan. What you describe was how this site ran for me for two years, until the site upgrades he made. Now it runs well. Very little lag over here.
Mine seems to take forever for the site to come up when I first open IE. Also, clicking on a post seems to take a long time.

Yes, the spell checker was in Chrome. I found the setting to disable that. It may well be that something else is slowing things down. Right now, I'm thinking that Chrome is the likely candidate as the Task Manager window is showing a major draw on CPU usage by chrome.exe as I have just this reply window open and am typing this.

I have the same issue and I use Chrome also.

I'm seeing that in Chrome at the moment as well.
I will be rebooting the server shortly.
Server rebooted. Hopefully things are a bit snappier now.

That seems to be better for me. Thanks Wendell.
Much better now
Thanks, Wendell!

At some point in time of your tweeking today, the "Latest posting" menu displayed correctly on Chrome.
Now it is back to cutting off the top half of the first reply.:-S
As far as speed it has been quick and perky since I last gave my computers a dose of spam maintenance.
B-)
