Does anyone else experience very long (45 seconds or more) page load times here? Sometimes they are almost instantaneous, but many times I wind up navigating somewhere else and coming back several minutes later. Several times it has taken 5 minutes or more to access a page. I really enjoy this site a lot, but its getting to be a real pain. If its only me I'll ask our IT person to investigate...

My load time is typically less than 10 seconds, if that long.

I'm running Vista on a laptop and it loads great. Right next to it I have an XP machine that experiences 'slow load'...but don't know the cure. I guess it's just the OS.

I suggest that it's the machine, not the OS. I'm running XP, and my page load times for this site run between 1 second and 3 seconds.

You could potentially experience problems if you haven't done any house cleaning for awhile. This site is pretty intense, considering everything that goes on here. A fast server can only do so much.

I would recommend using CCleaner to do some housekeeping and then run scans for malware using Malwarebyte's Antimalware, at the very least.

I keep a running list of helpful tools at http://harntech.com/index.php?module=pages&func=display&pageid=3

Also, XP systems tend to get bogged down after having System Restore on for extended periods of time. CCleaner has a utility that will allow you to browse the restore points and delete them (don't delete all of them, just some really old ones if there's a lot). You might also check your System Restore settings (right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, System Restore) to see how much it's really using and verify that your drive still has plenty of space left.

Wendell

I run CCleaner about once a week - just ran it and rebooted everything.

I still have some close to instantaneous loads and some that are taking several minutes.

I am using Google Chrome - perhaps thats the problem. I'll try switching over to FireFox to see if anything is different.

Well, it could then just be a slow hop server between you and this site's server, which can always be a problem. There are so many servers to rely on to get from Point A to Point B and if one of them isn't up to snuff, well, we either get there slowly or not at all. Sometimes you can report the problem to the ISP and they can do something about it (although I wouldn't bet on that).

Speed to and from North Aboyne

Seems good here.

We like to communicate to North Aboyne's 'outlying districts' swiftly thanks to Angel and Wendell !

Cheers

I run on XP and IE.

Load time = ± 2 seconds.

I frequently use CCleaner also (almost daily).

No problems here.

Chrome

Using Google Chrome here (Des Moines, IA) and the site is fast enough for me.

I had problems early on when the site was "new", but after Wendell moved the site to a different server and I started using Google Chrome, it runs as fast as any other site I normally visit.

Who has hijacked the real RADU's identity? There's no way the real RADU would compare this forum positively to the mother of all forums, is there?
