mmm...Not Necessarily So

> LOL If I said that their would be reports, posts, etc and a call for justice. I guess your aloud personal attacks?

Did you watch the video ?..watch the video. Its a simple matter of context here. These ladies on Ask The Editor are educated, well spoken and attractive. When these ladies comment on the etymology of our lexicon, past and present, I give a listen.
If you had posted something remotely interesting and educational, I would applaud you.

Merlin was correct. New words are being introduced into the English language, I'd probably argue that words aren't necessarily dropped from the English language, but relegated to the archaic category.

I disagree, but to comment further would enter the banned category. It boils down to twisting values to fit ones agenda. It's happened a lot over the last 50 years.

Well, let's examine your question.

Is it political if I fart in City Hall?
Or
Is it political if you fart in City Hall?

I think it's critical, as always, to know who's doing the farting, don't you think.

You probably won't believe this, but I once did a study on the thinking traits of the "Right Wing" mind. The results indicated that there is a significant propensity to see issues as either right or wrong, or put another way, black or white. I think it is obvious to most that that isn't the way it is. There are shades of right or wrong especially when dealing with abstract concepts. Don't be dismayed. There are adult education classes given in most localities on Critical Thinking. Possibly you could even get CE credit from your BOR. : )

(All said in humor Mark-have a good, productive day!)

I side with Merlin on this one

An old post from someone who's opinion I highly value 😀

There is a rapidly disappearing tradition in formal English of using the redundant negative as a means to express a point (unboundless, undauntless, uneffectless, unfathomless, etc).

And while parochial word Nazis like the those at the American Heritage Dictionary may frown on "irregardless"; the Oxford English Dictionary considers it to be an "American dialectical" usage.

Since formal language tends to evolve from dialect; the use if "irregardless" signifies that the user is concurrently a traditionalist and ahead of his time.

Fartin in city hall

Once upon a time, there was this beautiful gal. She had gas, she went into a small restaurant, and sat down. The Juke box was loud, and she proceeded to fart in time to the juke box. Suddenly, she realized EVERYBODY was looking at her. As she looked around, she realized that the music was coming from her ipod, and ear buds.

🙂

But irrelevent I'm sad to say; my wife is a teacher's aide in elementary school (K-5). She has told me that all traditional grammar and spelling conventions are rapidily being replaced by twitterese. To vriually all of her students two, to, too all are written 2, before = B4, just a couple of examples, but I,m sure you know what I mean. She thinks it will only get worse as more and more people depend on social media.

I think I'll dig out my copy of Finnegan's Wake. I admire a man who can create his own language.

From a proffessor in college I have always remebered that there is a definate distinction between "right & wrong" and "correct or incorrect". Right & wrong imply some sort of morality, whereas correct or not is less subjective (but not always).

You know there's something horribly wrong in the world when all it takes is, ahem, a "hyper-emotional" few to ruin the freedoms of a plurality.

One has to wonder who the complainers were and what their intent, although I have a pretty good idea.

Wasn't me that complained ... I'm not sure anyone complained, for that matter, I don't think Wendell ever said that was the case. I think he just looked at the board and decided it was time for a break.

I don't know why Wendell tortures himself with P&R. If it were me, I'd leave it down for a month and see if it makes his life better, before deciding to turn it back on. I don't think any of the regular users are going to leave the board just because they can't talk politics here. There are plenty of better places to argue about politics on the internet than a surveyor's message board.

Just my 2 cents.
