When we post here the threads sometimes pop up in FB, Twitter and LinkedIn (the biggest trash heap of them all ). Is there a security setting or check box that does not allow for our posts to be shared or pushed to another format? Thanks
If Wendel can earn a few sheckels by sharing my genius wit throughout the WWW, I say, "go get'em."
Wait.?ÿ What????ÿ We are supposed to supply genius wit in our posts????ÿ When did that become the rule??ÿ Someone should have told me that about 15,387 posts ago.
Don't panic. True Life Stories from the Cow Pasture are equally valued.
Once it is put on the internet you can bet a google search will find it.
I'll start by saying that there are two things that keep this site online: my heart and advertising revenue. Both are required and the site would disappear if one of these were removed from the equation.
What is required for the advertising revenue to continue? Traffic. I use RSS feeds to tell the outside world that we exist, many of whom use other methods of communication, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc. These RSS feeds are simply a title, sometimes an excerpt of the post body, an image (when applicable) and a link back to the topic here. They alert people of a new topic so they can visit, read, and hopefully participate. This all translates into more traffic.
Despite our great traffic numbers, I know that we've only scratched the surface. But I don't massage or tweak anything in order to generate just any ol' traffic, I try my best to only attract surveyors. I'm proud that our numbers reflect an overwhelming majority of quality, industry-specific traffic, which is a great selling point for potential advertisers.
The revenue is great and does cover all hard costs and a small fraction of our time working on the site. This is where my heart comes into it. Without that, there's no business expert that would say it's sustainable from a purely business perspective.
So, the short answer is: no.
This is partially due to the need to raise revenue, but also because that feature doesn't exist in any forum software including this one.
Yes. For the record, our number one source of traffic (by a huge margin) is direct, meaning that most folks come directly here without a link from somewhere else. The second largest source is through Google search, followed by social media.
Wendell, when I first read this I assumed that you would tell him all that he had to do was post in the non public areas for those items he was concerned about, is this not the case?
The non-surveying forums are not broadcast to social media, because they aren't surveying-related. But that means surveying topics wouldn't be posted in non-surveying forums.
Thanks that??s what I was looking for - The non-survey topic section not being broadcasted. I??m not complaining, I was just wondering where the ??wall? was located.?ÿ
No problem.
To be clear: surveying-related topics posted in non-surveying forums will be moved to the appropriate forum.
Would someone be able to easily find me here by searching for my email address, which is in my profile?
I try to avoid being controversial and use an alias but have always tried to maintain some boundaries with the online profile.

Profiles are hidden from the public. The only way to view them is by becoming a member and using our Members directory. Even then, email addresses are NOT available unless you specifically add it to your bio (which is available in your members-only profile) or your signature (which is available to the public in publicly-available forum posts).
I've had people complain when they put their email address in the message area of a post or in their signature line. If you don't want certain information available to the public, don't put it where the public can see it. I do NOT divulge your email address to anyone nor do I sell it to third parties. I've always felt strongly about that. I hate it when I sign up for a website or service and they add my email address to a list that they give away or sell. I respect your privacy and I try to be as clear and open as possible about how I operate this website. ?????ÿ
The image below is my public profile, which does not show my email address. Had I included my email address in my bio (the "About Me" section), it would be shown to any logged-in RPLS Today member that viewed my profile.
The image below is my account settings, which is where I update my account information. The email address field is available here so I can change it. Only I can see my own account settings. I could add my email address to my bio if I wanted any interested logged-in members to see it. I could also add my email address to my signature line, which would be shown below all of my posts in the forums, some of which are available to the public.
Groovy, thanks for taking the time to make it clear.?ÿ
