That said, the site actually brings in more money now than it used to. I wouldn't say I'm making a big profit off of it or anything, but I'm certainly not digging into my own pocket to pay the bills anymore. We can all thank the advertisers for making that happen. If you take into account even just the time I do actually spend here, and apply a discounted version of my normal hourly rate, it does still come out to a loss on paper. However I'm just happy that I'm not paying all the bills anymore. I do actually enjoy the time I spend here, most of the time. 😉
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for those nice comments. I guess I got a little carried away.
And for those who I expect to reply by saying I could have spent all this posting time reviewing that thread, just know that I'm actually using voice transcription on my phone. Windows 10 Mobile is awesome for this and I don't even have to tell it when to punctuate, it just knows. 🙂
I would dare say that basically everybody who frequents this "corner website" (as it were) enjoy the place. I know how much I value "my time" and don't much appreciate others giving me grief for it.
I am glad you enjoy running the site and keeping company with a bunch of ..... well, I can't say that here..:D, so we will go with "sometimes difficult, but mostly good people".
Where else could we all enjoy Okie stories from an original like we have here? And here I am on the east coast.
I see a lot of trolling here. I know there are a few members who like to jag each other now and then but when the discussion gets hot, the trolling ruins it. Every single one of us is opinionated and love a chance to throw it out there. When the opinions are of people and not the topic, things get awkward.
I really enjoy the discussions and I also enjoy the stories and even some of the jags but when two or three people get to harping on each other, I usually bail out of the thread.
If anyone wants to make rude comments, they can always just send a private message, right? Is it easier to be rude and cutting in a crowded room than it is one on one? You bet it is. One on one, you don't have your chums backing you with other snide jags.
I say keep it professional. This ain't beerleg anymore. This is RPLS Today! If you're the helper, be the helper. If you're the boss, act like it here and everywhere.
Don't let your bob drag.
There is a part of me that wants to create a separate area (or maybe a separate website) where those folks can have at it without any moderation. It would be hidden from the public and you'd have to agree to a special set of Terms, and each request for access would be granted manually, one by one. Get it out of your system and leave it out of the civilized side of things.

Whoa, back up the truck. An apology? From Kent? His account must have been hacked.
Or something is terribly wrong.
Any board members in the Austin area available to do a welfare check at his house?

Ha! I just realized that by the time I posted this that Kent had been given a time out and sent to the penalty box. No need for a welfare check. I'm sure he is hard at work constructing his own survey discussion board, Whipping a Dead Horse Ad Nauseam dot com.
Kent, being unable to post here, may resurrect the POB forum. Could brighten up things over there. Or, maybe provoke the wheels to turn a bit ... O well. It reminds me of some of the situations in James Herriots books!

The board has that already. "Start a Conversation".

I think this is the kind of commentary that had some folks banned. It does nothing to advance our profession or to assist any particular member. We should all try to restrain from posting everything we might be thinking, especially when our thoughts are personal in nature.

Don't waste your time Wendell- They can and do hammer each other on FB. You have a great thing going here as it is. Let the toxic crap find it's own home somewhere else.
So, I've been reviewing some threads around here since I banned a few folks, and it seems maybe I should be banning some others as well. Let's just say that if you are bad-mouthing someone that is banned, regardless of why or how they were banned, you are personally attacking them and they can't even defend themselves. So I suggest you keep that in mind as you post, because the ban hammer can come out again.
Imagine a couple of kids arguing about something, then Mom comes along and pulls one of them aside to punish him, while the other is sticking his tongue out and making faces. But the kid in trouble can't respond because Mom put him in time-out. That's basically what I'm talking about.
