For those that have some experience with this. Lets say someone used?ÿ an R10 Model 1 Version 2 or an R8s as a base?ÿ in an optimal wide open location with a R12 rover, what are you giving up if anything??ÿ They both track the same birds. The Model 1 and R8s does use 440 channels as opposed to the 672 used by the u R12 but how much of that 440 channels worth of data is broadcast to and used by the rover.?ÿ Would you expect to enjoy the canopy performance potential of the newer receiver on the rover end??ÿ If not then how does someone expect to get higher performance with a new receiver on a VRS network given that the reference stations might be 1 or 2 generations older??ÿ I somewhat expect its Trimble whispering in our ear to spend another $27K to buy the latest base.?ÿ
Thanks in advance.
I watched their webinar a couple weeks ago and they specifically stated that you did not need an R12 for your base. As long as your base is getting the same birds and the same frequencies the rover performance should not be negatively affected.
As long as the R10 model 1 is in the open it should not degrade the enhanced performance of the R12 rover as long as they are both tracking the same satellites. The enhancement is in the RTK engine on the rover. I also have R8 model 2's which are GPS and Glonass only, I would think in that case you would not get much added benefit from the R12 but who knows? I think it needs all the additional signals/frequencies/constellations to be able to filter out the multipath, etc.?ÿ
It was a live webinar on the R12 2-3 weeks ago. I believe was recorded but they said it would only be available to their dealers. Not sure why they wouldn't put it out there for end users.
You can find the public version of the R12 webinar at the address below.

@swag The part about not needing an R12 for the base was in the questions at the very end of the webinar.
So I just had a demo of the R10's and R12's. So the R10 models 1 and 2 can have a simple upgrade that I believe Trimble is doing free right now if you purchase a R10 that essentially makes them R12's so maybe check the R10 out before jumping into the R12! I believe there's a pretty big price difference between the two. Also as far as your 660 channels you would have to be acquiring 165 satellite's in order to use all 660! 110 sats at 440 frequencies. So I don't think well have to worry about that in our life time.?ÿ
As long as your base and rover can track all the constellations your good. If only one of the two can that will not help.?ÿ
On this subject of channels.
One satellite can produce many signals, in a high multipath environment. You might have 10 or 15 wrong signals, and a faint correct one.
So, more channels, is good.
