Hi,
I would like to ask your help.
I have an old, Topcon Hiper + receiver. There is a problem with it, sometimes it doesn't want to work correctly, it can see only 3, or 4 satelites. It usually lasts 2-3 days, I try everything (restart, reset, etc.) and finally it start to work again. This occurs about every 3 months. For example today.:( Can someone help me? Why does it do this and how can I fix it?
Thank you in advance,
Tibi

Do you let it try for at least 25 minutes??ÿ?ÿ If the receiver hasn't been used for a while or after a full reset, it could take that long to update the almanac data so it knows which satellites to look for. Only 12.5 minutes if the software knows how to start receiving it in the middle of its transmission.

I agree, I'd hook it up to a motorcycle battery and let it cook all night.

I suspect that it may not have had the firmware update to address the GPS week/year rollover that happened a while back.?ÿ The firmware update is something you can do as long as you can connect the receiver to a PC.

The firmware question can be determined by connecting it to a computer with a serial cable and using the Topcon Receiver Utility [TRU] software to ascertain the firmware version by clicking on the Information icon in the main menu under "Receiver Management."

if the firmware is dated before the beginning of 2019, it needs the update.?ÿ A word of warning: older receiver sometimes begin to give a "board health" warning after new firmware is loaded.?ÿ I have a pair of GR-3 receivers that happened to when I loaded the GPS week rollover firmware update on them.?ÿ They still work, but they are a little slower to initialize that they were before loading the new firmware.

Since you mention a single receiver, I presume you must have been using to collect observations for OPUS submissions.?ÿ If it does not have that firmware update from early 2019, the receiver misinterprets the GPS date and puts a date from almost 20 years ago on the file.?ÿ OPUS will not process that file unless you know how to tinker with the RINEX data to correct the dates.
