I recently started using my Sokkia 2700 ISX units again, they have set unused for a good while and the internal batteries have given up the ghost but I've been running the units with external batteries.
My problem is that the unit I typically use as my base station randomly restarts/reboots. I can find no rhyme or reason and have switched the external power supplies and power adapters about. I do not believe the external power is a problem as the unit just reboots if you will. I have watched it, the lights flash off and it restarts. I do NOT have to power it back on.
The data being logged is stored.
I have held the button and done a factory reset. No noticeable difference.
I have also formatted the internal memory card. No noticeable difference.
I am unsure of the firmware version or how to verify it.
Any thoughts?
JDB, I'd be surprised if the internal batteries have given up the ghost, unless you've left the receivers for a very long time. It might be worth leaving them on the charger for a while to see if they do charge. I've noticed that these smart batteries have some kind of managed charging system, sometimes the green charging led flashes, sometimes it's fixed and a full recharge does take a while. I've got 9 year old batteries that are still working!
I've never had to verify the loaded firmware version but you'd be best to load 3.701 as that was the last Sokkia supported version. Novatel the actual receiver board manufacturer have available 3.906 and possibly 3.907 in the near future, but 3.701 works fine for me.
There have been a few recent threads on this receiver, if you search back you'll find some useful info, links etc.
If you have the powerup program it might be worth setting them up as base and rover again. One critical item is to make sure that they are configured to send and receive RTCMv3 messages.
Hi
My GSR1700CSX would power cycle on and on etc same as yours.
this was due to a signal change in the glonnas (Spl)
signal a firmware update was required.
So i suspect its the same issue for your 2700 isx
so a trip to your sokkai service is required unless
you have the right cable to 2700 ISX to serial port on your computer.
The update is a bit convoluted i was at the sokkia tech
shoulder and its a bit convoluted procedure
I bought the cable but never used it again.
That was the only time in 6 years the receiver heads where in the shop.

Thank you both for the replies.
I have located this page which is what Peter described. I do have the proper cable and will try to update the firmware in the morning.
I downloaded the Novatel Connect Program and Manual from here and found that the "LOG VERSION" command reports the current firmware version. My version is less than the 3.500 listed on the first link.
I upgraded my Sokkia GSR2700ISX and two GSR1700CSX to the latest 3.907 from Novatel site and have no issues so far.
You have to send a LOG VERSION output to Novatel in order to send you the right auth code.
If anyone interested for the procedure email me at [email protected] to send you the pdf's with instructions.
