Subject: Need Help – Older Firmware for ProMark 3 (Before GPSP010)

Hello everyone,

I have a ProMark 3 that is experiencing issues with position calculation, despite receiving a sufficient number of satellites and having a good PDOP (≈1.5). In the Surveying application, no satellites or signal bars are displayed, and when I try to start recording, the device freezes. However, in Mobile Mapping, the satellite count is displayed correctly, and the position appears to be calculated.

I suspect that the current firmware version (GPSP010) is causing the issue, so I am looking for an older firmware version, such as GPSP009, GPSP008, GPSP007, or GPSP006, along with the associated files (eboot, OSxxx, PM3EUxxx).

If anyone has these files or knows where I can find them, I would greatly appreciate your help. Any advice or suggestions are welcome!

Thank you in advance for your support.

I do not have an answer for your question, but I do have three ProMark 3 units and I am experiencing the exact same situation.  Hopefully, someone smarter than I will come along with the fix.

This caught me by surprise as I could see one unit failing, but not all three, at the same time.

Does this firmware update occur automatically when the units were powered on?

UPDATE : I checked the firmware version in my promark 3 and it appears to be P011.

@alan-cook

This confirms that other ProMark 3 users are experiencing the exact same issue. The fact that multiple units failed simultaneously strongly suggests that this is not an individual hardware failure but rather a firmware-related issue, possibly due to Week Number Rollover (WNRO) or a software bug.

To answer Alan’s question:
No, the ProMark 3 firmware does not update automatically. An update requires manual intervention using an SD card or PC software like GNSS Solutions.

The next step would be to try installing an older firmware version (P009 or earlier) and see if this resolves the issue. Have you been able to find any older firmware files?

I am reaching out because my ProMark 3 receiver has developed a bug in position calculation, despite receiving a PDOP of 1.5 and a sufficient number of satellites. To attempt a rollback to a stable configuration, I am searching for older firmware versions released before GPSP010.

Could you provide the following files or direct me to a source where I can obtain them?

  • Ebootxxx
  • OSxxx
  • Older GPS firmware (GPSP009, GPSP008, GPSP007, GPSP006, etc.)
  • PM3EUxxx software (compatible with the older firmware)

I appreciate any help you can provide in retrieving these files. If you have any recommendations on how to resolve this issue, I would be grateful for your advice.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

@tabbi

No, I haven't found any firmware files.  I am currently looking to upgrade my equipment.  This isn't the first time I've had problems using legacy equipment and even if we find a fix, it most likely won't be the last.  I've been hesitant far to long to upgrade and it's time I put that issue to bed.

The Promark 3 was a valued part of my equipment inventory for quite some time and I look forward to whatever I go with next being as dependable.

"Today, I downgraded the firmware from P011 to P010, but the problem remains the same. The automatically displayed date is July 10, 2005, while today is March 15, 2025, which is exactly 1,024 weeks apart (The GPS week number rollover is a phenomenon that happens every 1,024 weeks, which is about 19.6 years). If anyone can send me P006, I would be very grateful because I have a PR3 that still works with this version."

@tabbi Dear Tabbi ,
I am writing from Greece. I tried to email you, but you didn't answer. Like you , I have 3 Promark 3 and I am trying to find the firmware P009,P008,P007,P006. I have corresponded with Magellan in Holland and Germany , with no results . In fact many other fellow engineers in Greece , we have the same receivers .
One engineer reported to me that all the dealers who sold Promark 3 , have the firmware we asked for , but they don't give it to us and of course advise us to buy new ones .
I have sent an email to China and am waiting for a reply from there as well. I was very pleased with the Promark3 , as I was using them to take 2 initial points and then with the Total Station Nikon , I measure . I will let you know if I receive any news , in relation to the search I am doing .
Best Regards , from Skopelos Greece , Yannis Asteriadis , Civil Engineer .

@asterya

Dear Yannis,

Please accept my apologies for not replying sooner. Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t found a solution regarding the Promark 3 firmware (P009, P008, P007, P006). I have received several messages from different countries—many people seem to be facing the same problem. It’s truly frustrating.

As soon as I manage to find a solution or obtain the firmware files, I will make sure to share them with everyone who is looking for them.

Thank you again for reaching out, and best regards from [ALGERIA]!
Sincerely,

Hello! I found P008 firmware but also not working (wrong date). Notice that I have downgraded only the firmware not the FOS212 & Promark3EUV201 because my PM3's are RTK. I don't know how i can send you the files.

Subject: ProMark3 Revived – Thanks to Ahmed.vilic and Important Firmware Advice

Dear colleagues,

Thanks to the kind and generous help of our dear colleague Ahmed.vilic, who provided the P006 firmware and the older version of Mobile Mapper, I was able to bring my ProMark3 back to life. After installing the files, my device is now working perfectly and tracking satellites 10/10!

However, I must warn you: my second GPS unit is now out of service because I mistakenly installed Operating System 1.44. So please be very careful and follow this sequence exactly:

  1. First, install GPS firmware P006 (do not restart your GPS at this point).

  2. Then install Mobile Mapping 1.20.

  3. IMPORTANT: Do not install Operating System 1.44 under any circumstances.

  4. Turn off your GPS, remove the battery for 5 minutes, then reinsert it.

It should work perfectly after that!

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to share a Google Drive link directly here, but if you need the files, feel free to email me at: [email protected], and I’ll send you the download link.

A big thank you again to Ahmed.vilic for his invaluable support.

Best regards,
Tabbi Amar

@tabbi

I have sent an email to your address.  Thank you for all that you've done to bring these units back to life.

I have ordered, and am expecting delivery, of three Igage static gps units.  If I can revive my Promark 3's, that will give me a substantial fleet of units for my static campaigns.

Best regards,

Alan Cook

Hi, got my PM3 to register signal bars and logging survey data. Display still shows the wrong date, but correct time. Is this what everyone else has experienced? Been converting the Ashtech files to RINEX, and correcting the dates with a text editor, on some old Promark 2 units I have, that had date failure a while back. Thanks.

hello ;

Key Point: “Wrong” Date Display Doesn’t Affect Accuracy

Even though after a GPS Week Rollover the module’s displayed date will appear ~19.7 years earlier (i.e. the 10-bit week counter resets to 0 at week 1024), all position and timing solutions remain fully accurate. What really matters is that every receiver in your setup uses the same firmware and rollover handling (e.g. eboot-os-p006). That way, each unit reconstructs the full GPS week count identically—even though the onboard display shows an “old” date, the underlying calculations and post-processing deliver correct, consistent results.

Just verify in Magellan Info or TalesInf that base and rover share the same framework version. No manual date changes are needed—synchronization of rollover logic is all it takes.

date 09 sept 2005  équivalent 25 avril 2025     defference 1023 week and 4days
