Hello All,
I'm looking to log static data to the SD cards in Sokkia GRX-1 receivers. This has not been done by anyone in our agency yet, as they are fairly new receivers. We have been using them strictly for RTK purposes.
Please chime in, after reading the manual about "collecting data" (4-22), it seems as I allow the receiver to acquire satellites and then hold the power button down for approx. 3 seconds until the LED light turns green under the storage tracking bar? Then data begins to log. That part seems pretty straight forward.
Here's what gets me: the manual states for static sessions to configure one receiver as the base and the others as rovers. It explains that the receivers communicate and don't begin logging data until the base is logging. In other words, it's a measure so all the receivers have the overlapping data and someone doesn't pick up a receiver with an insufficient amount of time? That's my take on it, anyone help me out? Why can't I configure all receivers to act as a base? As long as the field guys have accurate time overlap. Please Help.

I use SurvCE to start the logging of the raw data most of the time. The other times I use TRU (topcon receiver utilities.)
I'm not sure about this, but try to press the power button 3 times and it should start logging.
We usually only configure one unit as the base and run multiple rovers. They can be "rovers" and still collect static data.

When using the SurvCE method, you can configure the receiver to base or rover in the field? I believe this is the route we are going to go, as we to operate the SurvCE software on our data collectors.

It's been a while since we have logged static with our GRX-1 but I think all you have to do is like mentioned in the above post. Once the receiver is ready, we wait until we have green LED light in the "Satellite Tracking Bar", then press the on/off button 3 times quickly and the receiver will beep once a second and the "File Status" LED at the bottom of the "Memory Status Bar" will be flashing red and green indicating that it is logging. I don't think that while logging static the receivers communicate with each other, we would just do our planning so as to have the occupation time overlaps that we wanted.
I think static sessions can be started and stopped using SurvCE but have not tried that with the GRX-1.

You can log static data by using the POWER button method like you mention. I believe that the logging interval defaults to whatever is set in the receiver by the fatory or TRU. Each receiver can be started and stopped independently. They do not not need to be used together, unless of course, you want/need them to be.
I typically begin logging static data when I set my RTK base in the Ranger 3 (Spectra Precision Survey Pro v5.4). When setting the base, there is an option to select a recording interval. I typically select 15 or 30 seconds. Once the base is set, the receiver will begin logging data. You can then end the data logging by simply turning the receiver off, by selecting to END SURVEY, or by selecting POST PROCESSING in the Ranger and following the prompts.
When setting the rover, you are able to select a recording interval as well. For normal RTK work, this is set to ZERO.
