I've got V11.33:

Is there any way to load a Geoid onto Survey Controller without TGO or TBC?

I think with that version the geoid files are still ggf files:

http://www.trimble.com/globalTRLTAB.asp?Nav=Collection-71

Just download what you need and paste it into the system files folder.

Bill,

Thank you for the info and link.

Geoid 12A is 32.7 MB. I don't have many jobs on my data collector, so I'll see if I can load that big boy. If I can't, is there any way to get just a portion of CONUS, say the West Coast? (Calif, Nevada, and Arizona)

You can chop up that file using Trimble Grid Factory. It lets you graphically select the area you want so you can make a much smaller file.

When I needed just Afghanistan, I clipped it in TGO and now just copy between data collectors. I "sniffed" around to see if QGIS or any of the other programs could clip the file and didn't find anything on a preliminary search. Maybe someone can clip it for you. I would offer but am limited to 12 Mb (I think) since all of the file sharing sites (dropbox, 365, drive) are all blocked to me. But more than happy to try is you tell me where the original download is and what area you need.

Thanks, Teresa. I'll try the entire Geoid 12A first, and if that's no-go, then I'll load Geoid 03 - Region 05, which is only 4MB. It's a shame that Trimble won't chop up 12A like they did with 03.

Alan,

I think that's what I need. Thank you. I'm going to try it out right now.

I think the rationale behind not providing an easy means to trim down a geoid file to a smaller region is that we the newer data collector, memory is typically not a relatively scarce resource as it once was. So a one-size-fits-all of the CONUS Geoid 12A is the answer. Or so it seems.

Carlson still will not load a Geoid larger than 6 Mb or thereabouts so you have to use their extraction tool.

The format for Survey Pro is the .ggf file that was referenced above. If you have ForeSight DXM or can download it, it has a Geood extraction tool in it that may do what you need. That program will run in demo mode for that type of application without the need to purchase a hardware lock.

Trimble Grid Factory

Alan,

Trimble Grid Factory works GREAT! Thank you!

I chopped the 32.7 MB Geoid 12A down to a manageable 2.27 MB file for just the Southwest US. It easily loaded on my TSCe.

Trimble Grid Factory

It's worth noting that even for newer data collectors (TSC3s for example), subdividing the Geoid will improve performance (in terms of DC speed).
