The advertisements in all of the surveying magazines for Javad GNSS sound very impressive and I might be interested, but when I search for dealers in the US, only three locations show up with the nearest to me being Chicago (I'm in the southeastern US). Anybody in this part of the US surveying with Javad? Is this equipment so much better than Topcon, Leica, Trimble, etc. for those that have it? Also, the ad says "starting at $19,990". Does this get you everything you need or is this just the beginning?
You should talk to Adam Plumley. He's in North Carolina. Rather than giving you a marketing schtick, you should give him a call and let him show you what it can do, then you decide if it lives up to the hype. Personally, I think that just about every boundary surveyor should have a Javad Triumph-LS system. I say that as a surveyor, not as a salesman, although I am both.
There are several of us who are practicing surveyors who also provide sales and support, and Adam is one.
The starting price is for a Triumph-LS and monopod, Triumph-2 base and Spread Spectrum radio (HPT901BT). You would probably still want to have a tripod or fixed height pole for the base, although, I've been working without either for a month, simply setting the base on a stable place, such as a concrete wall or truck roof, etc. The Triumph-LS comes pretty well stocked at this price, but if you want to use the internal SIM card slots, you'll want to buy that option. Might be useful being in North Carolina so that you can use the RTN there without requiring an external cellular modem. But, you could still connect to the RTN using a cell phone as a hot spot as the LS comes standard with WiFi.
Give him a call:

I love the new add with the "Magnificent 7" theme! Surveying adds are always so technical and professional, what is wrong with a little creative, sexy, action in a survey add? Sorry to get off topic. Jp

Landman, I have been in your neck of the woods before. The first job I took on when I went Solo was an asbuilt on the Bio Retention Pond on Allen Street at the High School.
Top knotch tech support is very important.
When I first jumped on the GPS band waggon, Hayes in Tennessee was where I got my TDS data collector. They were always a phone call away. At least during normal hours. Good folks. Jerry Sheron, et al would serve me well.
The same goes with the javad bunch.
Just a phone call away.
There is no real difference between calling good tech support 5 miles away, or 500 miles away. Just a phone call away. Good help is what you need.
And, javad group can remotely go inside your LS.
Having a local supplier, is NOT as import as knowledgeable, available tech support.
Ok, Houston?
And, the 5pls team are good. Honest. (Sometimes they say, I don't know...)
And available.
Get a demo is where you start.
I'm a happy customer.

Was that fairly recently Adam? I know that there is some construction scheduled for the high school (not sure when it's suppose to start). Next time you're in town, look me up.

No that's been about 5 years ago. I don't get out that way for survey projects much anymore, but would be up for a trip out that way sometime.
Is it possible to configure the Triumph LS as a single unit with RTN?

Yes it is.
Thanks Shawn,
I have been following you and JD since the Promark2 days and was very impressed with (along with everything else you write about) your recent post about your Javad story and your relationship with Javad.
I have been following Javad since the Ashtech days too.
I would like to find someone who can tell me that I can connect to the NYS DOT RTN with the Triumph LS, how much it would cost and who will sell it to me?
Maybe Duane Frymire can help as he is also in NY.

Isn't the NYS DOT free? i think you just need to register here http://corsaccounts.dot.ny.gov/sbc/Account/Register
Any modern RTK receiver can connect to any modern RTN
Eric,
Should have been separate questions. What I meant was how much the receiver would cost and who can sell it to me. Secondarily, confirmation that I can run either the Triumph LS or Triumph 2 as an RTN receiver.
thanks
Javad GNSS can sell it to you.
The support comes from the 5 PLS team.
So... Contact one of the 5 PLS team, they will advise you.
It comes with a day of training.
For me, Shawn Billings came up, and demoed it. I bought a couple of months later.

I would like to know also can the Triumph 2 be run with network rtk. If so can the android app be used for data collection or what data collector options can be used?

Yes, Yes, I use Allegro and Getac with WiFi.
Nate,
I have been reading your posts for a long time too. You seem to be a reasonable, practical person and I value your input here.
Thank you.
Bill
Appreciate the info. What software are you using on the allegro and getac?

I use Carlson, It has the Triumph 1 and 2 drivers.
Thanks @ SirveyorBill.
I'm gonna be demoing one tomorrow morning. A couple weeks ago I told another PS about the Javad because he was looking to buy a base and rover. He got ahold of Matt Sibole and he is gonna be making the 2.5 hour trip to show it to us. I will let you guys know how it does in the mountains.
