What kid of radio are you using? If it's an hpb450, only 10 20 % were narrow banded before trimble "ran out of parts" and you had to buy a new one.

Hpb was commonly sold with 5800s, cable it up and connect it to pdldealerconfig software and run through the steps. The little report will show you.

Go into Trimble Winflash (download if you don't already have it)

Connect to 5800

Click on Configure Radio Settings

Frequency Selection

Radio Configuration

Channel Spacing

You will have 2 selections, 12.500 or 25.000 KHZ, 12.500 being the FCC compliant

well,I am using the internal radio on my 5800/w uhf transmit,I am only doing 1-50 acre alta surveys ,so it has been working so far.I want to get an external radio for longer distance but I want to be sure I buy the right bandwith .Im not sure if a 25k pdl4535 will communicate with a narrow banded 5800

No it won't, BUT even if it would, in the USA at least it wouldn't be legal. You will need a 12.5 khz base radio to be legal. I have no clue what the radio is in the 5800, it would also need to be narrow band capable if it is used to transmit, regardless of output power.
