If you're downloading from a 5700 over USB, what operating system are you running and which USB driver are you using? None of the USB drivers I've found support anything after Windows XP (i.e., not Windows 7, 8 or 10).

Hey after dropping $1800 on the CHC unit, it works beautifully for static. No annoying pole clamp, the USB works. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that those Trimble people allowed this glitch. I already started using Leica robotics. The only Trimble thing I had left was the 5700 which is now in my basement collecting dust.

This problem is a bit different in that you cannot fix it by going to TBC.

FixWeek (zip file)

or

FixWeek (self extracting executable)

If you click on the first link, it will download a zip file. Unzip it, and run setup to install the program. During the installation it should create FixWeek in the start menu. The other link will download a self extracting setup.

When you run the program, navigate to a directory with the dat files. Once it finds dat files, it will display them in a box with check marks. Uncheck any dat files you do not want processed. It does check to see if the week number is greater than 1024, so it shouldn't change any files that are correct. Note that it does make backups of the original file.

I can assure you this does not contain anything malicious, no viruses, etc. I don't know of any easier way to distribute it, but there are probably some out there who are not able to install it due to company or agency IT policies. Nothing I can do about that.

I just made this, so please let me know if it does not install correctly, or if there are any problems or bugs.

My Win 10 Windows Defender indentify's Malware and removes the downloads.

John, Thank you very much. I found this link with the help of google. Your program works fine and I was able to process DAT files from 96 to 16. You saved me lots money and time.

It seems like this could also be fixed after converting to Rinex, similar to Christ Lambrecht's Date Switch. Christ, would you be willing to add that option to Date Switch? I have programming experience and might be able to do the work if you want, although I bet you could do it much quicker.

Thanks again for Date Switch, by the way. I use it all the time.

I use it as RTK, no problems, 5 miles is really pushing a radio base singal

John,
The Fixweek tells me I have outdated files and asks me if I want it to update them. I answer OK, it seems to do something> When I reboot and run the program I get the same results. any idea?

The program is not setup to "tell you" if the files are "outdated". If a file is selected (default) and if the week number is less than a certain value (1024), then it adds 1024 to the week number in the file. If the week number is greater than 1024, it does nothing to that file.

If you inadvertently process a file that really was collected before 1024, it will change the date in there and probably make that unusable. There is no way to know if a file is truly that old, but the assumption is made that you would not be processing a file collected back then.

This is the way Trimble chooses to do business. The one 4700 I have was the last unit I purchased from Trimble back in 1999 for this very reason. Before purchasing the 4700 I had bought 5 new 4000sst and the complete Trimble Software package (about $17K worth of software when bought in 1996). On Jan. 1, 2000 the software quit working and finally Trimble announced it was a Y2K problem and nothing could be done except upgrade to the new Trimble software (TGO). I was not happy but static surveys were still very much in demand at that time and how could I let $200K of equipment sit useless on the shelf. I promised myself then I was done with Trimble. The next problem was a few years later when TGO quit working for some unexplained software glitch and again (according to Trimble) nothing could be done and a software upgrade was the only solution. Since I had already switched to Leica and Javad and don't need to process static much I didn't buy the new software. Now we have found that the 4700 (which in my opinion was the best hardware ever built) will not function because of some software glitch and nothing can be done except buy a new unit. I don't know if you see it but I'm seeing a pretty clear pattern and I think if you continue to purchase Trimble equipment and software you must put a end date as it appears that have built in end of life dates for everything they build. Trimble makes good equipment but if it has an end of life date you should be told that at the time you buy it.

You are correct: Planned Obsolence

But, using my software converts the dat file back to usable again.

Something they could have done very easily.

Thanks John for the software fix it will help a lot of guys keep working. That was a very good deed you did for the survey community. You are correct about Planned Obsolence and Trimble could have been a stand up company and fixed this so easily with a 7.63 firmware update. How much could it have cost them to do the right thing.

John,
The message that shows up is " Setup cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your computer. Click OK if you would like setup to update these files for you now. You will need to restart windows before you can run setup again." The computer is using Windows XP. I click okay something seems to be happening, but when I reboot I get the same message. I tried the fixweek on my Windows 7 Computer and it just hangs up the computer.

Thanks

I have Trimble hand-held. At turn on the screen shows firmware date 1995.

Works fine: position and navigation. And the date is wrong 1024 weeks. But, locks on all sats, and reports the same CA code position as any other GPS receiver.

Mr. H, I'm running my first static collection with a 5700 right now and am looking forward to trying your date fix to get good base coordinates. Assuming it works, thank you so much! Custom local brews in Kona on the big island of Hawaii if you're ever in town.

Yes, my 4600LS units also think it is about 1024 weeks before today. The good news is that they otherwise work perfectly fine as long as you don't need to process baselines in combination with other receivers that think today is today. It's no longer necessary to backdate the DAT files to process them in GPSurvey or TGO. Both will once again generate baseline solutions that are otherwise flawless.
